Port didn't match Adelaides offer, he came to Port for less money than the crows offered.

So how did Geelong end up with a first round compensation pick then?
Trengove went to the Bulldogs for around 500k and Port were only offered a pick in the 30s so Motlop clearly is on a lot more than that.
We offered 600k so Port must have matched or made a better offer because that's the only way that Geelong would have ended up with first round compensation.
Kane and Rucci have just tried to sweep it under the carpet because they were bagging Adelaide for offering him that sort of coin, but the compensation pick is a dead giveaway as to how much Port are paying him.

Justin Reid was openly discussing that the club had approached Motlop on Trade Week radio.
"Reid would not be drawn on specifics of any Lever trade, but did say the club remained in the hunt for Geelong’s Steven Motlop.
Motlop has met with a number of clubs, including Port Adelaide and Gold Coast. A decision on his future is expected in the coming days."
