HFNL 2015 Season

This weeks games - I must admit my tipping has been somewhat inconsistent so far! I'm gonna nail this weeks!!!

Warrnambool v Terang Mortlake - Blues have injury woes, ruckman Rob Bright out for a few weeks with a broken hand, Damo McCorkell with an ankle and Will Jacobs with a hammy! Liam Hoy is unavailable. They have injected youth into the side but also regained defender Tim O'Keefe from a severe off field concussion. Terang on the other hand have had mixed fortunes losing brother Sam and Joel Crawley and dropping under performing Robbie Hare, they regained James Reicha, Peter Moloney and youngster Ben Ludeman. T/M took it up to Koroit in a big way last week and could well of walked away with 4 points but not to be! Warrnambool have had indifferent form and will look to steady with a win here. This game could be a nail biter or a blow out! Toss the coin! My head tells me the Blues have too much fire power.

My tip - Wbool Blues by 5 goals.

Cobden v Koroit
Loads of outs in this game also! Koroit are undefeated and rightly so head into this game as favs even at Cobden under lights. Drew, Dwyer, Blake, Gow, Brennan and O'Grady all out for Koroit but they recall gun forward Sam Dobson to tackle the Bombers! Handy for the Saints because due to an incident against North Warrnambool key defender Paul Hinkley will miss through suspension! They also lose tagged Leigh Evans (injured) and VFL player Dan Watson. It's gonna be a ripper game down at Cobden and well worth the trip. I'm gonna go with Koroit to continue their stellar run, Goodall, Templeton, Barker all working well in the mid, the forwards of Dobson, Dobson and McLaren will be a handful for an undermanned Cobden.

My tip - Koroit 4 goals

Portland v South Warrnambool
Portland to continue their home dominance and win this one! Portland by 2 goals.

Port Fairy v North Warrnambool
North gone with youth, speed will be a factor over Port Fairy, could be closer than most would expect. North by 3 goals.

Hamilton v Camperdown
Gareth Crawford in for his first run this season for the Kangas, Hugh Douglas to face his old side the Pies. Camperdown are building momentum and this will continue. Camperdown by 8 goals.

Good luck to all!

Results from Rd.6

Portland 2.1, 4.2, 10.3, 12.5 (77)

South Warrnambool 3.0, 6.3, 8.4, 11.6 (72)

Jarrod Hayse kicked 6 to give Portland yet again another win at home albeit against a struggling South Warrnambool unit. Malcolm was named best a field for the Tigers and Finn for the Roosters.

Camperdown 3.4, 8.7, 15.10, 22.10 (142)

Hamilton Kangaroos 4.5, 5.7, 9.8, 12.9 (81)

Camperdown continued its return to form with a convincing win over Hamilton. Hamilton lead after the 1st quarter but then is was all one way traffic as Dan Casey booted 5 majors, Sam Chapman 4 and Kahn Beckett 4. Best player on the ground was Sam Chapman who is firming for the Maskell with his last few games. Hugh Douglas kicked 6 for the Kangaroos in an impressive performance against his former side.

Warrnambool 4.3, 6.7, 8.10, 13.11 (89)

Terang Mortlake 1.3, 2.5, 3.7, 7.7 (49)

Warrnambool's fire power proved to mighty for the Bloods yesterday as they lead all day and took the 40 point victory to restore some spirit and confidence in their group. Although Jason Rowan kicked 5 it was mostly the work done down back by Tim O'Keefe and Sam Wilson that helped the Blues to maintain control all game. Wbools best player was Tim O'Keefe and Terang's was Chris Baxter.

North Warrnambool Eagles 8.5, 14.7, 27.11, 35.15 (225)

Port Fairy 1.1, 3.4, 5.5, 10.7 (67)

North Warrnambool blew Port Fairy away in fine style yesterday at Gardens Oval. An impressive first and third qtr of 8 and 13 goals added to a massive 158 point win. Coach David Haynes finished with 12 goals, small forward Jarryd Lewis kicked 9, and utility Mark Murphy kicked 5. According to Eagles twitter Andy McMeel had a blinder for the Eagles finishing with 45 touches and best on ground. Port Fairy's best was Mason Crosier.

This week is the bye with Interleague being played.

So how strong a team is in for interleague? Any big outs? Who are the stars to look out for?

The team will come out on Thursday night, there is some injuries that are going to possibly have major impact on selection this week.
Forward- Premier forward Jason Rowan (Wbool) has an achilles complaint that I wouldn't think would be risked. My next best person for the job would be ex AFL player David Haynes (North Wbool) who is also a non-starter due to injury, new Camperdown recruit Dan Casey would be my 3rd who has ruled himself out of contention also. So it will be Sam and Ben Dobson (both Koroit) with the job up forward, both more than capable of playing a huge role. Travis Graham (Wbool), Tim Horan (Cobden and if fit), possibly Tom Batten (North Wbool). VFL Ruckman Sandy Robinson (Geelong and Port Fairy) may also be rested forward to increase the firepower also possibly Jarred Hayse (Portland).

Mids - 2012 Maskell Medallists Levi Dare, Joe Dare (both Cobden) and Tim Hunt (Wbool) are all missing through injury. The other medallist Sam Chapman (Camperdown) is primed and in great form which is great news. Ben Goodall (Koroit) is fit and firing as is Zacc Struth (Sth Wbool), Josh Walters (Wbool), Fraser Lucas (Cdown), Paul Foster (Cobden), Isaac Templeton (Koroit). Next string ruckman Jordan Dillon (North Wbool) is out injured also.

Backs - SANFL gun Sam Rudolph (Port Fairy) is out with injury, but well covered by in form backmen Paul Hinkley (Cobden), Tim O'Keefe (Wbool), Damian O'Connor (Terang/Mortlake) and Chris McLaren (Koroit). Runners Kane Ubergang (Hamilton) and Angus Chirnside (Wbool) will both play also. A surprise overlook so far has been in form backman Adam Wines (North Wbool).

Many could fill spots if needed but with some of the top of talent missing it sure makes for a better contest and puts a question mark on the result.

2013 Hampden Interleague Side

B: Timothy O'Keeffe, Sam Cowling, Kane Uebergang

HB: Damian O'Connor, Paul Hinkley, Christopher Baxter

C: Zacc Struth, Nick Thompson, Isaac Templeton

HF: Sam Dobson, Timothy Horan, Benjamin Dobson

F: Brody Mahoney, Stephen Staunton, Wilbur Pomorin

R: Sandy Robinson, Paul Foster, Sam Thompson

Int: Travis Graham, Thomas Batten, Christopher McLaren, Hamish Waldron, Jarrod Holt, Fraser Lucas

Emg: Darcy Graham, Jarrod Hayse

As u can see Sam Chapman was a late withdrawal from this Saturdays side. The depth of the Hampden league is truly being tested this week v Sunraysia. Considering the depth being tested its a wonder that Matthew Wines wasn't called up from North Warrnambool, probably the only big name midfielder not considered for the clash.

The game begins at 12.15pm and is being player at the Reid Oval in Warrnambool, once finished the WDFNL will take on Colac District...I expect a mass exodus of the crowd before that game. District league was sprouting about the gap closing between leagues not that long ago, wouldn't mind seeing a once off game between the two leagues to finally put that ridiculous call to bed.

Good luck to all playing!

Hampden League huge winners today over a highly touted Sunraysia winning by 94 points.
The first quarter was fairly even with some even thinking Sunraysia were up to the task and had come to play but from the second quarter on it was one way traffic all in favour of Hampden.
Steve Staunton (Ter/Mort) lead the way down forward kicking 7 goals and earning himself the Richard Nixon Medal for best on ground, while Sandy Robinson (Port Fairy) dominated the day in the ruck and earned himself the VCFL Best On Ground Medal. Zacc Struth (Sth WBool) had the ball on a string all day and was named 3YB's Matthews Petroleum Player of the Day. Those 3 boys were ultra impressive but special mentions to backman Chris Baxter (Ter/Mort), forward Brodie Mahoney (Cobden), Damian O'Connor (Ter/Mort), Nick Thompson (Sth Wbool), Travis Graham (Wbool) and Will Pomerin (Ter/Mort) who all had great impact on the result.
The result means HFNL will now again meet the formidable opponent in Ovens and Murray League next season.

The WDFNL were beaten by 3 goals by Colac District League putting to bed any speculation that they are even close to closing the gap between them and Hampden League. The game was at beat atrocious to watch.

After a two week break teams should come back raring to go and lists should be free of the niggly injuries! Some interesting games for ladder movement this week too:

Koroit will have a percentage boosting win over Port Fairy and remain 2 games clear of other contenders at the top of the ladder.

North Warrnambool should account for Portland at Bushfield and move into 2nd place on the ladder depending on other results at worst the win would have them stay at 3rd. Portland can still stay in the 5 with a loss but it depends on if Camperdown wins or loses against Warrnambool.

Camperdown take on an inconsistent Warrnambool at The Leura. Warrnambool have been struck by the injury curse whereas Camperdown are close to recovered from theirs and playing some good footy. A win to the Pies will have them bounce into the 5 and join Wbool on the same amount of wins.

South Warrnambool take on Hamilton and both teams desperately need the win to have any chance of staying in touch with the rest of the comp. This game could go either way.

Terang Mortlake host Cobden and its a very important game for both sides in terms of ladder position. A win to Cobden could jump into 2nd place, a win to Terang/Mortlake could have them jump into the 5!! Terang have some good players in good touch none more than Steve Staunton but he will need help to knock over the Bombers!

Tips and teams to come tomorrow or Friday.

Cobden by 5 goals over Terang.

Hamilton by 2 goals over South Warrnambool

North Warrnambool by 6 goals over Portland

Camperdown by 2 goals over Warrnambool

Koroit by 80 points over Port Fairy!

Good luck!!

Another big weekend of footy done and dusted and my tips werent too bad, the only one i missed was my tip of an upset but Warrnambool took the points v Camperdown and showed they are still well in the hunt for the Premiership! North Warrnambool comfortably covered Portland, Hamilton took down South Warrnambool in the last minute of the game, Koroit made light work of Port Fairy and Cobden proved too strong for Terang/Mortlake.

South Warrnambool 11.14 80 v Hamilton 12.12 84

Hamilton have done as many would of expected and knocked over a depleted South Warrnambool but even more impressive it was done away from home! South can often be tough to beat at home and showed they were confident with a 3 goal lead at half time. Both team were inaccurate all day and opportunities to take control of the game and put the other side away were lost. Kane Ubergang was again impressive for Hamilton providing a hard attack at the ball and man, and was a crucial ingredient that lead to a Hamilton revival that brought them back to a last minute effort that got them a 4 point win and 4 points for the win!! Brendan Huf was good up forward with 4 goals, Roger Morris and Andrew Pepper were the two best for Hamilton both having impressive days at the office. South Warrnambool were served best by Danny Finn and Jamie Mugavin who kicked 4 goals.

North Warrnambool 22.8 140 v Portland 7.10 52

The Eagles again flexed their scoring power muscles and wiped Portland off the rain soaked surface at Bushfield. The Eagles piled on 12 goals straight in the last term to break the Portland shackles and run away with a huge 88 point win. Portland did well for 3 quarters heading into the last 27 points down and still with a sniff, but the Eagles lead by Jarryd Lewis a goal sneak who is quickly becoming one of the best in the league piled them on and shut the gate. Lewis kicked 4 goals in the last and finished with 5, Haynes also kicked 5, but the ever improving Mark Murphy was a standout for the Eagles kicking 4.5 for the day. Adam Wines held Jarrod Hayse well to a single goal. Portland had some excellent performances none more than from the big boy Ben Malcom, his tap work was ultra impressive which lead to rover Rhys Egan also being one of Portland’s best players. The Eagles CHF Michael Darmody in his 150th Senior game was reported for striking and took the 1 week penalty offered after the game.

Camperdown 6.8 44 v Warrnambool 14.10 94

Again another game that was blown right open in the final quarter! Warrnambool showed it still has what it needs to be a major player in the 2013 Premiership! The young brigade was very impressive for Warrnambool with Jackson Bell, Tom Ludeman and Darcy Graham leading the way. Travis Graham continued his impressive Interleague form kicking 3 goals in the absence of Jason Rowan. Camperdown stretched the Blues up to the 3rd quarter being only 11 points down but the momentum was with and stayed with Warrnambool. Sam Chapman was at his supreme self, winning a lot of clearances and running hard all day earning a lot of praise from on lookers. Nick Bateman toiled away all day and was probably second best for the Pies. It was a disappointing finish to the game for the Pies and they will be lamenting it. Warrnambool on the other hand are back to their best and without forward Jason Rowan that can only be pleasing.

Koroit 16.12 108 v Port Fairy 7.7 49

Port Fairy jumped out of the blocks against the ladder leaders having 4 goal to 2 start, but from there it was all Koroit who piled on 7 goals in the second to put it beyond doubt and come away with a nice little 59 point victory. It was lead by veteran Joe McLaren and young gun Sam Dobson who shared in 10 of the 16 goals kicking 5 each. Ben Goodall is in stellar form this year and has to be an early tip for the Maskell Medal, he kicked 3 goals and had it on a string. Koroit have almost taken down every team in the comp in the first round, they only have Portland at Portland (unbeaten in a long time at home) and Hamilton at Koroit to go. Port Fairy on the other hand can be happy they showed some competitiveness early and also held Koroit to only 2 goals in the final term. Scoring pressure is the most obvious lacking element of the Seagulls. Mason Crosier was impressive for Port Fairy and midfielders Sam Anson and Dylan Gunning both had their fair share of the ball.

Terang/Mortlake 7.9 51 v Cobden 11.13 79

Terang pushed Cobden all day but couldn’t ever get the upper hand as Cobden ran out 28 point winners. Will Pomerin was another player who continued on strong Interleague form and stood out for the Bloods kicking 2 goals and having plenty of the ball. It was another Interleague star though who was the best on ground in Cobdens Paul Hinkley who dominated all day. He could do no wrong. Steve Staunton was disappointing after kicking 7 in the Interleague the week before. Marcus Hickey was again impressive for Cobden as was young gun Micky Salmon. Cobden are just doing what they need to at moment and maybe flying under the radar a bit. At this stage I would have Cobden and Koroit the two form teams of the comp and my tips to meet in this years GF....but...there is a very long time to go!

Top 5 players of the Week – (including info according to my sources from other games)

Paul Hinkley (Cob) – Another defensive scalp and strong presence across Cobdens backline.

Mark Murphy (NWE) – 9 shots on goal, kicking 4.5 for the day as a half forward.

Darcy Graham (Wbool) – Classy use of the ball, hard running, great impact on the result.

Ben Goodall (Koroit) – Continues to bust out big disposal numbers and kick goals.

Will Pomerin (Ter/Mort) – Although they went down Will was all over the place racking up hard ball gets and kicking a couple of goals.

This week we have:

Hamilton v North Warrnambool - North regain backmen Brendan Murfett and Mitch Bowman (NBRebels), also Ryan McElgunn has been called back up from the twos. They lose Michael Darmody (susp), Sam Batten (leg inj) and Josh Corbett (unavail). Hamilton made a couple of changes but were bolstered with Hamish Waldron recovering from a neck injury. The Eagles have been having percentage boosting wins against the teams below them, I can't see why this would be any different. Hamilton will look to close down the Eagles in form players namely Jarryd Lewis and Andy McMeel.
Eagles by 50 points.

Warrnambool v South Warrnambool
The big rivalry continues tomorrow at the Reid Oval. The Blues are ravaged with injury at moment and have had to rush in Nick Chirnside from a recovered knee reco after only 1 game in the twos. That says to me depth is well and truly being tested. Tim O'Keefe, Josh Walters, Otto Opperman and James Chittick all join the others already with injuries including Jason Rowan, Rob Bright, Damien McCorkell and Tim Hunt on the sidelines. Peter Corriedig and Liam Hoy (NBRebels) return and Will Couch called up from U/18's. South have included Mark Evans to cover the injured Jacob Rhodes. This will be a huge test still for a very young Roosters outfit and it would take a small miracle to pull off the win.
Warrnambool by 35 points.

Camperdowns v Terang Mortlake
The Pies also have made big changes to take on the bloods! Luke Molan, Jacob Mahoney, Luke Mahoney, Jack Williams and Jake Dowell are all in making the Pies outfit look much stronger. Out goes ruckman Marcus Powling, Jesse Gallichan, Gus Bourke and Darren Cheeseman, also goes veteran Aaron Sinnott who is suspended.
Terang have lost the services of prolific backmen James Reicha for the season due to travel, and also Paul O'Connor (relocating to WA), Ben Ludemans was omitted. Robbie Hare, Tommy Moloney and Tommy Arundell come in.
Camperdown really need this win to consolidate some ladder position. They will put a lot of work into stopping Wil Pomerin and Steve Staunton.
Pies by 25.

Portland v Koroit
Koroit get the chance to consolidate first position on the ladder, remain undefeated and knock over Portland at home for what would be a first by any visiting team in years!! Portlands record is impeccable at home and they would love nothing more than for this to remain and take a huge scalp in Koroit!! After last weekends miserable last qtr v Eagles the Tigers will be out to make a point! Koroit regain Haydn Drew from VFL and promote Morgan Vandermark for his debut. Seamus Blake and Josh Purcell are outs. Portland lost Kane Spencer and Josh Chapman and included Marcus Amor and Dylan Barr. The Tigers have a job ahead of them. They couldn't contain the Eagles small forwards last week and this week they have to contain the Saints tall forwards, Sam Dobson, Ben Dobson, Ethan Zimmer and Joe McLaren.
Koroit by 55.

Port Fairy v Cobden
There is ins and outs for both sides but the bottom line is Cobden will win and win big.
Cobden by 85.

Good luck to all playing!!

In a short comment: WOWEEE!! What happened to Cobden today?? Anyone?? A draw was played out against Port Fairy today! Port Fairy led all day but at the final siren scores were even! Did not expect that one!! Well done Port Fairy!

(Log in to remove this ad.)

Bloody lot of views on this and not many comments by others! Get involved people!!! Make it look like I'm at least talking to someone haha

Winners table this week seen wins to North Warrnambool, Warrnambool, Camperdown, Koroit and a draw between Port Fairy and Cobden!

Players of the week -

Sam Cowling (WBool) - 7 goals for the backman turned forward!! His first flex of forward muscle this season!! Great return for Warrnambool considering Jason Rowan was out injured. Big game this week v North Warrnambool can Sam do it again??

Sam Anson (Port Fairy) - The midfielder was very busy on Saturday and between him and Dylan Gunning they had most of the clearances for Port in their draw and first premiership points in 32 games.

Andy McMeel (NWE) - The young gun of the comp returned to prominence with what I have been told was an electric performance along side Dean Gavin who was said to have played his best game for NWE in the 101 point destruction of Hamilton. 40 disposals was the number tweeted by an Eagle fan.

David Haynes (NWE) - No fanfare by news, not in the Eagles best, but just slotted a quiet 6 goals. He is a big handful for the lighter on sides and has proven he can kick them even against the top sides but this week is when it will count. Warrnambool awaits.

Heath Moloney (Camp) - A very under rated ruckman in the comp, had a day out on Saturday, plenty of marks and excellent tap work feeding Kahn Beckett all day.

Review for this week on Friday afternoon!

Keep up the good work ! Your weekly previews are always interesting to read

Ps Put a lazy $100 on Sam Chapman to go back-2-back maskell medalist

Keep up the good work ! Your weekly previews are always interesting to read

Ps Put a lazy $100 on Sam Chapman to go back-2-back maskell medalist

Thanks for the kind comments 'clocktower', I'm glad it's comes across ok. A couple of cracking games this week to look forward to!

And your call of Sam Chapman going back to back is a very fair call! He would even have polled very well in losing games so far. He could well be outright leader as we speak. Keep an eye out for North Warrnambool midfielder Andy McMeel, and a roughy I think could be forward Sam Dobson from Koroit!

Round 9 - The halfway mark!!

The season is flying along and a game before the halfway mark it's an interesting looking ladder. This week will consolidate or slip up for most sides in terms of ladder position.

Win - Loss - Draw
Koroit. 8-0 Play Hamilton and should go 9-0
W'Bool 6-2 Play NWE, win stay 2nd, lose drop to 4th
NWE 6-2 Play Wbool, win up to 2nd, lose drop to 4th
Cobden 5-2-1 Play Portland, win up to 3rd, lose stay 4th
C'Down 4-4 Play South Wbool, win stay 5th, lose could drop to 6th. Better % than T/M and Portland.
P'Land 4-4 Play Cobden, win as high as 5th, lose as low as 7th
T/Mort 3-5 Play Port Fairy, win up to 6th, lose stay put, superior % to Hamilton.
H'ton 2-6 Play Koroit, win stay put, lose could drop to 8th.
S'wbool1-7 Play C'down, win move to 7th, loss could be bottom 9th.
P'Fairy 0-7-1 Play T/M, win move to 8th, loss stay put.

Obviously all based on other sides winning and losing. Camperdown, Portland and Terang/Mortlake all have the most to play for this week in terms of hanging onto the top 4 sides and playing for that busy 5th spot on the ladder. North Warrnambool and Warrnambool will fight it out for second. Cobden have a chance to leap frog the loser of that game with a win of their own and move to 3rd, a loss tho has them stuck at 4th.

The most intriguing battle of the week is North Warrnambool Eagles v Warrnambool Blues. It's the battle for the game ahead 2nd spot! Only 3% separate the two at the moment. Both teams have been high scoring sides but the Blues defense has been stronger in terms of goals against.
The Eagles are the biggest scoring side in the competition, kicking 145 goals and 113 behinds, second-placed Wbool 112 goals and 90 behinds.

Both teams have big changes this week but Warrnambool have the major in of gun fwd Jason Rowan returning from an achilles problem. Rowan has been hampered for quite a while with this injury and we can only hope it's now right and he can start to get back to his best again. Warrnambool also bring back in versatile midfielder Brendan Moore. The Eagles have brought back in the experienced duo of Michael Darmody from suspension and Joel Nestor from a back complaint.
I see The Standard are reporting the game will be won by the best forward line on the day...it's a bit to simplistic for mine. Both teams have strong fwds and strong defenders, I think both sides would be happy to break even in those areas and win by a point...it's the midfield and bottom 6 players that will determine the result of this one in my opinion. Warrnambool has had a young man by the name of Darcy Graham in super form tearing it up in the mid. He is possibly the best young mid in the comp on form at the moment. With Wbool mids somewhat refurbished this year due to retirement of Dustin McCorkell retiring and injuries to Tim Hunt, Josh Walters and Damian McCorkell, Darcy has taken on the bulk of the workload after predominantly playing on the wing last season. He is the man the Eagles need to put some stopping power to and I assume they would tag him or have someone like a Matthew Wines pay very close attention to him. Other mids to look for are Jackson Bell and Angus Chirnside who have both been in good form. The Eagles on the other hand have found some super form in young gun Andy McMeel and Dean Gavin, both reportedly had top line games the last two weeks and have been running rampant. Both are solid accumulators. Add to that Matthew Wines and Jake Myles and North look to have a fairly strong mid unit....but...it again isn't the attacking power that I think will determine this result alone, it's the defensive strength of the mid unit for either side that should be the most effective tool in winning this game. Shut down either sides run, carry and overlap and you not only stop them getting hands on the balls u prevent good use into the forward line making the defending teams job a whole lot easier.
As for the bottom 6 players its vitally important they play their role and play it well. It could be the only difference between a win and a loss. A goal by Eagle winger Ryan McElgunn, a saving mark by Eagles small defender Tim Sheldon could be it for the Eagles, on the other hand a sneaky couple of goals by Jye Turland for the Blues or that run down tackle by Tom Scherring for the Blues could be the turning point and enough to clinch victory.
It's going to be a cracker either way, Warrnambool need to prove they still have the power and North Warrnambool need to show they can be contenders. Bushfield is the place to be at 2pm on Saturday!

I expect other winners this week to be:

Cobden to beat Portland by 25 points

South to be defeated by Camperdown by 40 points

Koroit to take care of Hamilton by 45 points

Terang/Mortlake to only just beat Port Fairy by 6 points.

Good luck to all competing!!

Been a busy week of work so unfortunately didn't get to doing an overview of last weeks results, in short -

The Blues had an expected close win over the NW Eagles winning by 2 points after trailing by as much as 24 points. The Eagles lost coach David Haynes for the last qtr with what looked like a hamstring injury...Jackson Bell was best on ground and backs up his already solid form.

Cobden managed a win over Portland to help them consolidate 3rd spot on the ladder, even with the run of injuries Cobden are still going along just fine. The 24 point win was highlighted by Aiden Cole who kicked 3 goals and was a focal point up forward. Paul Hinkley also was busy.

Terang snatched the win over Port Fairy winning by 8 points in a tough fought last qtr where Port Fairy out scored T/M 4 goals to 2 to just fall short. Robbie Hare was the outstanding player on the ground kicking 6 goals for the game.

Camperdown had a big win over South Wbool 117 v 43. Dan Casey showed his strength and booted 7 goals for the match. Sam Chapman and Kahn Beckett were deadly in the guts racking up big numbers and hurting the opposition by use.

Koroit rubbed salt into Hamiltons previous weeks wounds giving them another 100 point belting following up from North Warrnambool. Koroit now sit atop the HFNL ladder at the half way mark undefeated. New coach Adam Dowie just keeps getting better. Koroits only fear now is complacency and injury. Ben Goodall again had a day out, making this a very common occurrence this year, he is the best midfielder in the game for impact and accumulation. Sam Dobson also continued solid form kicking 5 goals.

We start back at Rd1 games again this week!

Koroit undefeated take on second placed Warrnambool at Koroit. Last time Koroit had a narrow win in a very low scoring affair on a big ground. Koroit is wide but not so long, and they play a defensive wall really well. Warrnambool will look to hit up short targets and use their runners, with Damian McCorkell and Josh Walters returning to the side the midfield gets a boost, but Darcy Graham and Jackson Bell have been working well together anyway in the guts. Koroit don't need to win them all but for confidence in the finals another win here over Wbool will do them wonders! Same old story at the Saints, Sam Dobson, Ben Goodall, Joe McLaren and Chris McLaren are the maestros of the side, minimise their influence to win. Cracker of a game and should be a great game to watch this time around!! Get there at 2pm tomorrow and watch the best go at it!!
Warrnambool by 5 points.

North Warrnambool placed 4th take on an upcoming Camperdown 5th. The Eagles hate losing at home and will be looking to redeem themselves after a narrow loss last week. There is a question mark over Haynes, he may or may not play, reports are he trained Thursday night. They welcome back Sam Batten from a calf injury which will help the flexibility of the backline. Not so sure about their ruck combination at the moment, Tom Bowman looks to be punching well above his weight and I don't like them using Tom Batten in there, he is one of the best CHB's in the comp when up and about, why take him away from there. They desperately need Jordan Dillon back. Camperdown have maybe included big man Marcus Powling which isn't such a bad idea to work with big Heath Moloney. Luke Mahoney is an interesting one, played 1 senior game and has been named out with knee soreness for last game and likely this game too. The pies need to hit the scoreboard hard and fast to win this one.
Eagles by 35 points.

Port Fairy last take on v Portland 6th, both teams have been playing reasonable footy of late. Port Fairy have been hitting the scoreboard and that is what you need to do against the lower sides to put pressure on. Sam Rudolph, Dylan Gunning and Sam Anson have been up and about. Portland have to win this to stay in touch with 5th, at home very impressive footy, away not so.
Port Fairy by 5 points (upset)

South Warrnambool 9th take on Terang Mortlake 7th and a son of a gun will make a debut. Paddy Anderson son of Stephen "Shorty" Anderson will play for his beloved Roosters this weekend. He is a top aged U/16 player and has shown enough to warrant selection. Jeremy McDonald and Peter Mackarona are both interesting ins for the Roosters also. Terang have included controversial youngster Jake Crawley who has made recent visits to the tribunal and also noticeably dropped from Geelong Falcons of late....only early in his career and already making waves. Xavier Heffernan gets the call up from the twos. Both sides are floundering away at the base of the ladder and a win to either side is badly needed. Both proud clubs and both rebuilding.
Terang/Mortlake by 6 points

Cobden 3rd take on Hamilton 8th. Cobden have regained Micky Salmon, been playing some good footy the young fella. Even with injuries Cobden are traveling well, they should cover the Kangaroos ok, even with some indifferent form of late, Hamilton on the other hand have had some terrible form with two 100+ point beatings at the hands of the Eagles and the Saints. Will look to have a much improved effort this game.
Cobden by 45 points.

Good luck all!!

10 in a row is the headline around Hampden league circles this week! Koroit have made it 10 on the trot after winning the top of the table clash against Warrnambool on Saturday!! Warrnambool were sloppy with their use of the ball as the pressure of a well drilled Koroit unit was too much to handle. Even though Koroit's use into their forward line could of been better the still easily covered the Blues winning by 34 points. Sam Dobson again led the way for the Saints kicking 3 goals, but an impressive day by versatile key player Ben Dobson impressed the most managing 2 goals and numerous marks. Andrew McCarthy played a kick behind the play all day and won a lot of the ball by taking a lot of marks in defense. Koroit are obvious flag favourites and Adam Dowie has tried to play it down but it wont fool anyone, these blokes are set for a tough training block coming up and will try to get further ahead by adding to fitness at the risk of dropping a couple of games that wont necessarily matter in the grand scheme of things.
NEXT WEEK - Camperdown v Koroit - Warrnambool v Cobden

Cobden had a big day out smashing the hapless Hamilton Kangaroos by 90 points. Marcus Hickey was the man on fire as he banged home 10 of his own goals in a dominant display. The former Timboon Demon has been ultra impressive for the Bombers this season and could be one of the pick ups of the year in the comp, his ruck work is solid and has been very important with the injury to big gun Levi Dare. The Bombers were also well served by Adam Courtney and young gun Sam Uwland. Hamilton was best served by Gareth Crawford who toiled away in the midfield and at times looked like he could be finding the form many talked of pre season. Hamilton are having trouble against the top 5 of the comp and it will be looking hard in the offseason for some height and bigger bodies.
NEXT WEEK - Hamilton v Port Fairy - Warrnambool v Cobden

Port Fairy were brought crashing back to Earth with an almighty thud by new comers Portland. Portland took the honours 20.16 136 to 6.7 43. It was Coach Jarred Holt and Jaydon Stiles who did the damage kicking 5 goals each. Rhys Egan was very busy in the mid winning numerous clearances and kicking a couple of goals. Portland showed they can string together some powerful patches of footy when away from home and now they need to show this against the best. Port Fairy struggled to hit the scoreboard and Coach Sam Rudolph had to move himself to the backline to stem the bleed. Port Fairy will continue to improve though and teams should never take them lightly.
NEXT WEEK - Hamilton v Port Fairy - Portland v Terang Mortlake

North Warrnambool had a vitally important win over Camperdown. It meant the Eagles moved into 3rd spot on percentage above Warrnambool and also meant they now stay in touch with 2nd placed Cobden. The Eagles won by 28 points after a fairly shaky first half which had them 16 points down at half time. The second half was a different Eagles side which had a 9 goal to 5 finish. The Eagles had an impressive 9 goalkickers with 3 each by Sam McLachlan, Robbie Gregg and Jarryd Lewis. Sam McLachlan is a 17yr old winger/forward from Colac who was destructive on the weekend. According to Eagles Twitter he had 36 dispoals for the day and was impressive. Robbie Gregg was a headache for Camperdowns backline and showed he still has it. Dan Casey kicked 6 goals for the pies and midfielder Kahn Beckett was busy in the midfield.
NEXT WEEK - South Warrnambool v North Warrnambool - Camperdown v Koroit

Terang Mortlake had an 85 to 65 win over South Warrnambool ensuring they stay in touch with the top 5. Robbie Hare continued his good form by kicking 3 goals along side Steve Staunton who also managed 3. Tyson Densley created all day and was by far Terangs best player, Chris Baxter again showed why he one of the best defenders in the league. South Warrnambool held on until half time but were then blown away in the third term. Zac Struth again had a great day in the mid and showed he is a class above. Veteran Matty Monk also played well.
NEXT WEEK - Portland v Terang Mortlake - South Warrnambool v North Warrnambool

Anthony Brady and Greg Best video on The Warrnambool Standard website is as close to being opinionated as you will ever get off these two blokes. Im afraid they are both wrong. Umpiring in the South West has never been so ordinary. Umpires are criticised because they are terribly inconsistent at the moment and the blokes in charge of the umpiring training and developing are forgetting to inform local umpires that the game is not about them and that they should officiate by the rules as set and not add their own twist and flavor on how the rules should be interpreted according to ones self. Yes I have umpired before and it isn't rocket science, it's see the infringement, call the infringement, if no infringement play on! Wow....tough gig eh. Dont whinge about being criticised, fix up the standard and there will be credit where credit is due. Officiate don't participate.

Slack on review of weekend this week!!

Camperdown v Koroit - Koroit should be too strong for the Pies and win this one by 40 points.

South Wbool v North Wbool - North should easily take care of South and win by 50 points.

Portland v Terang/Mortlake - With Terang having so many players unavailable due to travel it's really going to stretch the depth too far. I think Portland at home will be too strong and win by 15 points.

Hamilton v Port Fairy - Could well be the closest game of the round, both teams play good and bad quarters, I'm going to go with Port Fairy to win by 2 points.

Warrnambool v Cobden - Warrnambool have strengthened up the line up adding Tim O'Keefe and Rob Bright, Cobden come off a big win with confidence....should be a close contest. Warrnambool by 12 points.

Good luck all!!!
