Well Warrnambool have already beaten Koroit this year or did you mean beat them again this year? I think you will find Cobden have a very young side - LAST week they had 8 u/18- not sure how many they had in the first round though???

Yes I did mean I didn't think warrnambool will beat koroit again this season, but having said that anything can happen as we saw in the GF last season.
It would be good for all these clubs that have young players playing seniors if they could hold onto them but it's harder these days compared to when I played as they tend to leave town to go to uni or get jobs out of town. Also the better players tended to play western border league and not go to the district league as much. Anyway it is what it is and clubs have to perform the best with what they have.

This week was Port Fairy v Koroit, it was a non event. Port Fairy were very disappointing from the first bounce onwards. Koroit took the win 114 to 34. Michael Darmody who crossed from North Warrnambool finished the day well with 4 majors, he presented well and started to put pressure on the backs as the day went. James Gow was ultra impressive! He is growing into the best small forward in the comp, his pack roving and goal sense is on point. Ben Dobson had a heap of the football all day and was very important across the middle/back of the ground, he took several turnover marks and used it well. Jeremy Hausler was very busy taking a lot of marks for the day and kicking a goal or 2 from memory. Koroit were too polished for an underwhelming Port Fairy, not too many highlights for them at all. Gunning tried hard all day

How can we get this forum up and firing. By my reckoning there are only regular contributors from Koroit (albeit a very good one) Portland (most represented) and Camperdown others rarely contribute and hardly any information that you don't read in the Standard.. Or is it just that Big Footy is not considered a cool social network to be involved with.

There are a lot of people who read but don't comment that I know of. Even a couple of coaches who like to see the opinions out there. I think all you can do is keep up to date info, and hope as it stays continuous that others may choose to post. I'm firmly entrenched in the Warrnambool Blues footy club by the way....

HampdenMad do you think Wbool are stronger than last year even without Rowan..I havent seen them yet. What really concerns me this year is how far ahead of other teams Wbool and Koroit seem to be. Even more than previous years.

Warrnambool do look really fit and on top of their game early in the year. Koroit also look to be a step above. Don't forget that this time last year everyone was saying Warrnambool would win the flag by 10 goals so u never know. It's a long season.
What are your thoughts on everyone thinking north and terang are the next category? I don't think they are any better than the other 6 sides. All looks very close.. Camperdown have done very well.
But can't argue blues and saints are easily best 2 sides.

Wasn't that impressed with Camperdown at Portland...got let off the hook by the Tigers.

Warrnambool and Koroit are definitely way above the rest of the comp. North Warrnambool i would say are the best of the next 8, even though it's nearly even. If South Warrnambool can play 4 quarters of football, they could be on a par with the middle teams, but 2 much inexperience sets them back. I drove past Reid Oval other day and I noticed there is a new electronic scoreboard. Looking good! It is located at the NE of the ground, in front of the hockey pitch. Should be a spectacle for the finals this year 4 both comps. The first few rounds of footy each year usually has reasonable weather, but this year it has been wintery from the start. The season should of started earlier and have more byes during the year, especially in the winter months, to maximise enjoyment and crowd attendances.

Looking forward to our first round of footy being played in nice weather tomorrow! Heading down to Hanlon Park to watch the TIGES take on Terang. Will be another tough game for the young Tiges. I see Dignan has been named in what is surely his last game. Be good to see him off with the first win of the season, but Terang have some very good key position players... Will be tough.

I don't think Warrnambool are a better side than last year, but I do think Koroit are a better side than last year. Warrnambool are a more unpredictable side now, will have a more even spread of goal kickers, which can mean more consistent footy. The depth is an issue more so than ever. If there were major injuries to backs then there could be trouble.
As you said the gap is growing, they have made the gap bigger this year because the other sides have dropped away so much. Will be interesting to see if the wheel turns next year or whether this trend continues.

I think you're spot on, Warrnambool and Koroit are red hot favourites to play in the GF, North and Terang are marginally ahead of the chasing pack of Camperdown, Portland, Port Fairy, Hamilton, South and Cobden. Camperdown haven't surprised me, they have had an easy draw to start with beaten the 3 bottom sides and Hamilton. They need to beat Terang and North and make inroads to Koroit and Warrnambool to make this start worth anything otherwise they are just one of the pack.

Terang too good for the young Tiges yesterday. 8 goals to 1 first quarter is what did it, fairly even after that. Terang were too big and skilful for the young Tiges, especially O'Conner and Bant, although young Telfer did a good job on O'Conner when he was resting deep in attract, O'Conner is a physical player and young Telfer gave as good as he got. If Portland can hold onto this young team and pick up a few experienced gun players the future could be bright.

Terang Mortlake ball movement and foot skills were a credit to their team. Tiges have some great young players just need some bigger bodies and more experience around them. Could have had wins on the board this season, unfortunately for the confidence of the team they are winless.Just hope the season not to telling on the young players bodies.

Yeah must have been a horrible side! Haha.. No interleague side has ever had a full list of players. As far as I know it was genuine injuries that kept a few guns out. Mcintyre, Dobson etc. The younger lads in their first interleague game played really well. Gow, Williams, mcgloughlin.
And Luke crane... You know when people talk about a player who can turn it on, prob the best 60 mins I have ever seen. It was breathtaking. Don't win a magarey medal for nothing. Prob haven't seen his best at Portland yet. What are the Portland followers thoughts?

I didn't go watch the game, by all reports he really tore it up in the first half of footy. Classy player with silky smooth skills, the sort of player who would relish playing with the better players in interleague. Hopefully he will stick around for another season but I have heard he will be leaving once his contract is up at the end of this season.
I haven't heard much at all on how young Ben Malcolm went in the ruck, anybody got any opinions?

Big boy t.. I was going by the fact the average age was 23.. Years ago it would have been a lot higher. But I did go watch and the side played extremely well, although I dont think the opposition was that strong. Hampden was simply to skilful. It could have been a lot worse if the likes of boxhead, mctyner, s Dobson, carse and Nicholson had of played

Yeah true. Haha cheap dig seeing as I replied after the game had been played! No malice intended tom150.
Ben Malcolm did reasonably well in the ruck.

Went and watched Portland play koroit at Hanlon park yesterday and even though koroit won by 70 odd points the game seemed a lot closer then that. The young Tiges got within a kick late in the second quarter then Koroit got a couple of late goals in time on. Portland got the first two of the third quarter but then Koroits experience and bigger bodies took its toll on the young tigers, but the boys never gave up. As a portland supporter there was a hell of a lot to like from the first half yesterday, Jake Edwards just tore it up running all day, Sammy Faure showed his class in his one off game back from Morninside. I reckon ben Malcolm had the better of the rucking duals. Our young players really stood up yesterday and matched it with a real good footy side for the first half... Well done boys!

Was a great effort by the young Tigers. Edwards had a case of leather poisoning. Young Caldow shows promise and really like how Locahie Huppatz and young Uebergang are coming along. Big Ben Malcolm has had a good year but I thought Hausler won out in this game. Sour note was Luke Crane getting injured.

Great to see the Portland Tigers get their first win of the season. Well deserved, could have won more games but not to be. Lets hope they bring up their second win against Cobden at home this week.
