Best thing I have read all week..

"So this afternoon I will say, unequivocally, I am sorry. I am sorry for the hurt I have caused Kennedy's friends and his myriad of fans whom he entertained so well for so long.

"I genuinely believed what I said at the time but I truly regret the heartache that I caused. I'm sorry.

Notwithstanding the apparent inaccuracy in Hinch's AIDS accusations, for which he deservedly should apologise, the thing that amazes me about this whole issue is how little it all really matters. Not so much because Graham's now dead, but just how non-important one's sexuality actually is in this day and age.

For some reason, references to Kennedy's alleged homosexuality (I've actually presumed that he was gay for quite a number of years now, for what that's worth!?) have spurned those in the industry - many of whom who should know better - to react as if labelling him gay is some almighty insult.

It's not like Hinch was branding him a pedophile, or something as equally outrageous and shocking. I repeat ... what's the big deal? so what if Gra Gra was gay ... sheeez, get in line buddy. In that industry, through those years, it would be more surprsiing to discover that he hadn't experimented sexually.

It serves only to remind me of that classic Seinfeld line "I'm not gay ... not that there's anything wrong with that".

I mistakenly thought we had moved on as a society. God, there gonna get a shock when Molly dies. Or Peter Hitchener.

Exactly.

So why did the headline grabbing tart that Hinch is make an issue out of it?

He can apologize but should not be accepted. This clown should be removed and dealt with accordingly. He always crosses the line, his comment after the David Hookes death was in very poor taste indeed and this latest saga just continues his poor form.

This is precisely what turned my stomach. Make a profit from a someone's death ?

What, are you saying Mollies gay, next you'll be saying Michael Jackson isn't white and likes little boys. My whole world has been turned upside down:cool:

Whilst I agree that his comments about Kennedy went too far, his comments about David Hookes were not poor taste at all. What you have to remember is that many in the media were knowingly perpetuating falsehoods about Hookes when he died. Stuff like he was a 'familyman' and was 'devoted to his wife'. Hinch quite rightly set the record straight and said that Hookes was actually seeing other women at the time of his death. This has since been confirmed by others in the media.

Im sure you wouldn't be the only one to remember that Hinch actually went to jail a while back for releasing the name and details of an accused pedophile who was facing court years ago.

Dont agree. The mainstream media (particuar emphasis on Kerry P) tried to turn to Hookes into some weird amalgam of Don Bradman, Mother Theresa and 'Dad' Mike Brady from the Brady Bunch. Good on you Derryn for keeping it 'real'. Having said that shame on him for his tactless and insensitive attack on 'Gra Gra'.

His comment on Graham being gay isn't the problem.I doubt it would've been a huge suprise to many that Graham batted for the same side.

It's his HIV claim that was tacky.

IF Hinch beleived the HIV story, he could argue that releasing the story that such a beloved and respected member of the community had died from it could go a long way in removing any stigma.

I seriously, seriously doubt anyone would buy that. Rubbishing a dead man because its in the best interests of the community?

Agreed, although I think the furore over Hinch has gone too far.
Neil Mitchell should be ashamed of himself for belittling Hinch (a fellow workmate) publicly on his show.
I can't stand Neil 'the shock jock' Mitchell - he is a lot worse than Derryn Hinch IMO.
