I started a project to write the history of the Echuca Football club but it is a much bigger story than I thought. I have started a private section on my website to build the story, but I have not yet decided how to approach the history. Whether it is best as a series of articles, or as a mini-site. I did not want to write a book as I wanted the information to be available to everyone.

Rather than one club called Echuca there has been a series of Clubs

1. 1870s - Informal football club attached to the cricket club
2. 1876-79 - Echuca Club (merged/disbanded in 1879)

3. 1878-1889 - Echuca Park plays as Echuca Park
1890-1896 - Echuca Park renamed Echuca but soon disbands

4. 1894-1896 - Junior Team Railways
1897-1900 - Railways plays as Echuca Juniors
1901-1908 - Echuca Juniors plays as Echuca

5. 1909-1923 - Combined Echuca Team formed and plays in the Goulbourn Valley League
1924-1934 - Echuca played in the Bendigo League

6. 1935-1943 - No Senior Team after Echuca Club folded in 1934.

7. 1944-1945 Campaspe Valley Patriotic Football League
1946 Merger with Echuca Imperials and back to Echuca League
1946-49 Return and Fall of the Echuca League
1949-1974 The Bendigo League
1975 - Goulbourn Valley League

I have a lot of information on Echuca from the 1870's through to 1908, but I have much less after that.

I have some team photos and stats but I am interested in stories, photos, options, characters etc

There are a lot of angles
Echuca has a great rivalry with local club Rochester.
Les Kew Ming provides an interesting angle as a chinese footballer
Cummeragunja provides an angle into indigenous football
The club had number of issues, switch leagues etc providing an interesting history
Intercity games included railway journeys little discussed in football history.

If anyone is interested in helping this project, please let me know.

Michael, My Name is Greg Clark. My father Jim played for the Blues from 1943-51 and then moved to Echuca where he coached Echuca, Echuca East, Lockington, Tongala, Bunnaloo Rochester, and Gunbower. I notice that you have a connection with Boyles Photos. I have quite a few from Carlton days plus I also have quite a lot of photos etc from the Echuca, Echuca East etc. I dont know if these are any use to you but I'm quite willing to copy and send to you.

Have you contacted the Carlton history web site called Blueseum? www.blueseum.org

Michael,
Monty Brown played for Carlton (1 game in 1937) and after the war in Echuca.
Went from Bacchus Marsh to Echuca Football Club in 1945 and was captain and probably coach.
He was a science master so he probably taught in the the town
If you come across a photo of him, please let blueseum know as we require one of him.
