Hobart Stadium: $750 million cost

Perth stadium was in budget wasntit
It went over by about 10% just like other similar builds in the last 15 years (Adelaide Oval, SCG, etc).

Didn't go over by as much as some hysterical reports suggest, which often falsely claim the budget was $700m or try to retroactively add on costs for things like the train station which were separate.

Btw a ~10% increase (to $860m) also happens to be the highest any of Gruen's peers are willing to forecast for Hobart (see Appendix 5 of the report).

More immigration is what projects like this need, it's how governments pay off their spiralling debt.

If Tasmania can increase its population with an extra 25k immigrants per year over the next 20 years then the stadium will pay for itself.

With 1.4 million immigrants coming into Australia over the past 3 years, 400k could have gone to Tassie and tipped them over the 1 mill mark, which would have looked a lot better for the business case. Unfortunately, they mostly go to Melbourne and Sydney though.

Totally 400k immigrants could have been sent to Tasmania to significantly strengthen their business case for a stadium, and the Tasmanian government should also be offering all newly arrived immigrants a foundation membership and insist they learn the club song before they learn Advance Australia Fair.

This is the kind of entrepreneurship the Tasmanian government is lacking and why the stadium deal is spluttering. The Tasmania government doesn't understand basic economics, they don't understand if you dont take in massive numbers of immigrants you can't have football stadiums with roofs.

Let’s look at it the way governments budget things $750 Million will be $1+Billion once done for 7 games remembering Launceston will host 4 games.
Then if the AFL put the following clubs at the new stadium Collingwood,Carlton,Essendon,Geelong,Richmond,Sydney and maybe a Brisbane to fill the new stadium which leaves the low drawing clubs to play in Launceston.
How long before the people of Launceston say this is BS will want the big teams playing in Launceston after all it’s well known the history of Tasmanian football has been divided over the years.
Personally I believe the AFL should have put in the licence all games to be played in Hobart no matter what for the new team.
But if someone of stroke who’s got $$$$$ to spend and goes to a Collingwood or any of the big drawing clubs in Victoria and says transfer a game to Launceston with a decent amount of $$$$ let’s say $1+Million to that club against a GWS ,Gold Coast you would have to consider it as it will be clean $$$$ as you even get half that in return if games against a GWS or Gold Coast were played in Melbourne after you pay all the operating cost on that day.
