Horn on Wednesdays (vafa.com.au) - Alcohol at games

How interesting to see that VAFA CEO Michael Sholly is giving NZ brewing giant Lion Nathan a big plug in the Amateur Footballer, while Jonathan Horn writes about the danger alcohol is having on society as a whole.

Articles of both Max on Monday & Hornbag tend to be a bit longwinded, should just get to the point.

Last week I received from friend an email drawing attention to a thread about my writing on an apparently popular football internet forum. “Long-winded”, “rambling”, “slow to the point”, “full of it” just about sum up the views expressed therein

Hate to knock you down Rhombus but MPNFL is not even close to A Grade, some good footballers of course but you get them in any league. The big difference is the bottom 6 in the 22 they just dont stack up at all.

And full credit to the Horn for his article, anyone who thinks that there is not a problem with way a lot of people drink these days has their head in the sand.

Anyway it is Friday arvo and I'm off to the pub.

Hate to tell ya if its not as good as A grade, then it's very very close, one of the best leagues in victoria.

Having been involved in SFL, then Ammos for about 10 years & now being involved in a MPNFL club one thing i have noticed is the crowd participation & atmosphere in MPNFL is electric compared to the staid VAFA. Now that is probably a combination of the ability to have a few ales as well as the ridiculous rules that enable umpires to pay free kicks against the crowd in VAFA. Polite clapping versus some good old fashioned supporting, give me the MPNFL any day

Have watched Edi Asp in their finals campaign and rate it as C section stuff. I have however enjoyed the ability to wonder over to the bar though and think the MPNFL have it right with half of Frankston Park "Dry" and the members side wet. Good bar staff who aren't afraid to cut blokes off when they are getting a bit tired and emotional makes for a great day at the footy even if the standard of it is a bit under A grade ammos. Hot beef rolls at the eastern end get the big :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

You could have a beer all day at the u/19s North GF last Sunday, at Coburg, as long as you didn't leave the bar. Very few did. Obviously VAFA rules don't apply at non VAFA grounds

It's one of the few ammo rules I agree with even though in a superficial sense it costs revenue.

Alcohol prompts people who are unhappiest to act irresponsibly!

Waiting til after the game to have a couple of beers doesn't hurt anyone!!

Same rules apply down at trevor barker oval. its apart of the hiring of the ground that the social club remain open. :thumbsu:
