When you start advocating for banning things that other people currently have the freedom to enjoy and is a long standing part of our history and culture as a society, yes, it's your reality.
As I said, it's an attempt at a strawman. Not a good one.
Really? Ok, how have I misrepresented your position?
We make all kinds of things illegal because they're not a communal good.
This, for a start, should give you an indication;
Of course, if your view is 'we should make nothing illegal and everyone should just make their own choices' then we have a pretty fundamental difference of opinion in what a society is and how it works.
Ok, so now you're just creating a strawman of your own. Nice work!
So, are you against Horse Racing, Gambling or both? My understanding is both. Hence your involvement in this thread. If i'm correct, then I haven't created a strawman at all.
Well you have created one, but much like how you can't bring yourself to admit that the horse racing industry isn't a great one for the horses, nor will you accept that gambling does harm, you'll obviously never accept that you've simply created a strawman to try to argue against.
If you want to go have a punt on the horses, by all means go waste your money doing so, but let's not pretend it's some kind of noble long-running cultural experience that modern society needs to honour.

There's a fair amount of precedence in smoking tobacco within human society, people enjoying it and it being a part of our culture despite the harm it does too.When you start advocating for banning things that other people currently have the freedom to enjoy and is a long standing part of our history and culture as a society, yes, it's your reality.
If you want to look at the (very real) harm gambling causes, there’s a fair few places to look other than horse racing. Which got knocked off its perch waaaay back.There's a fair amount of precedence in smoking tobacco within human society, people enjoying it and it being a part of our culture despite the harm it does too.
I wasn't really talking about horse racing so much as I was saying that precedence and enjoyment do not equal that something causes zero harm.If you want to look at the (very real) harm gambling causes, there’s a fair few places to look other than horse racing. Aotearoa just banned dog racing. Is horse racing any less cruel or sad?

I'm amazed. There's actually a job where you can get paid to watch horses f*ck! Is that the REAL spectator sport here?Surrogacy and artificial insemination are prohibited in thoroughbred racing, with the Australian Stud Book stating that horses must be bred naturally. To be registered as a Thoroughbred, a foal must be the product of a “live cover,” meaning a witnessed natural mating of a stallion and a mare. Though artificial insemination and embryo transfer are possible and common in other horse breeds, it is banned with Thoroughbreds
