I may be a bit slow but it really hit me watching AFL 360 the last couple of nights with him replacing Gerard Whately - especially Monday night when Robbo almost throttled him.

Then having a quick look at the replay from Sat with him commentating....

He is an opinionated little pain in the arse with no experience, who likes to talk over the real experts in the game. Surely there are better options out there?

Please tell me you aren't suggesting Robbo is a real expert
The bloke just dribbles shit [the male version of Caro, but with less facial hair],so if Huddo is pissing him off then great.

No I was referring to the game day commentary and on AFL 360 when Sewell and Murphy were on.

Just has to get his 2 cents in all the time.

Since when does not playing at AFL level automatically disqualify you from being an expert.

Simply a ridiculous opinion to have. I'd rather hear Huddo's opinions on footy that hear the parochial bullshit lines trotted out by player after player, many of whom have huge axes to grind from their playing and/or coaching days and let it play out in their commentary.

Slightly off topic, but I thought it was funny during the call of the Eagles - Lions game when Hudson asked Healy how many goals he thought they would kick in the last qtr. Healy started taking the piss out of Huddo, saying 'thiirrrteeeen!!'

Where in my post did I state that not playing automatically disqualified him from being an expert? What I said was someone who has been intimately involved in the game will have a better understanding than those who don't - and those who don't should have a little more respect for those who have.

And how can you classify an opinion as ridiculous? An opinion is an opinion. If you don't like it then don't read it.

And talking about trotting out bullshit lines......most of you post is exactly that.

I know what you said, and it's still ridiculous.

The thought that someone knows more about the game simply because they played at AFL level is bizarre. Someone who hasn't played at that level could very well conceivably spend more time watching the game than one who simply plays it.

Huddo's been a commentator on TV for over a decade and has probably called 100s of matches. I know I'd rather his opinion than an idiot like Luke Darcy, who doesn't actually seem to know a damn thing about the game.

like him as a commentator

laugh at how bad he is as a host

Robbo telling him "don't be a w***er Huddo" was the funniest thing said on television for quite some time

Edit - :D moo

I don't think he's that great as the host of a show, but I think his commentary is head and shoulders above his TV calling peers.

And Robbo isn't an opinionated pain in the arse who talks over real experts?

OK Mr Smart Arse. So If I watch every formula 1 race for 30 years will that make me more knowledgeable about the sport than Mark Webber?

Take your stupid theories back into the closet with you and close the door behind you.

But sorry i forgot - you are a West Coast supporter. You lot seem to think that you all know more about the game than anyone anyway!

Not necessarily, but I wouldn't discount you based on the fact you never drove in formula 1.

You seem to think that I'm saying people who've played AFL are stupid and know nothing about the game. That's not true. What I'm saying is that we shouldn't automatically assume someone knows enough about the sport to pass judgement simply because they laced the boots up. Tony Shaw is listed as a 'Special Comments' man for Foxtel, yet one listen to the guy and you know that he really doesn't enough to be commentating. That's what I was getting at.

Let's put it another way. Who knows more about Australian politics? Laurie Oakes or Joe Hockey? One's simply a politician, while the other is a political reporter who's seen goverments come and go.

Take your stupid theories back into the closet with you and close the door behind you.

Nice.

I hate to break it to you but when they are in the commentary box he is the expert and if he is talking over people it's because they are probably terrible at that job.

Question, would Mike Sheehan no more about the game than Tony Shaw?? I would back Mike Sheehan's knowledge of the game and it's nuances than Tony shaw anyday, yet one played 300 games, one didn't.

As a commentator/journalist as Huddo is, he is paid to have opinions, and just because he didn't play, doesn't make them any less important. God, you'd rather listen to a commentary team of Huddo/Whately/Lane, than the dribble of the Channel 7 commentary team (barring Ling).
