Union does not have a strong foundation at junior and club level - and it is not well supported by the ARU; until they address that, it’s wall paper.

Rather funny that is 2018 the Force had higher attendances than any of the Austrlian super rugby sides despite playing what were essentially just a series of friendlies.

Rugby Union has a long history and relatively good following WA, why they axed them instead of the Rebels is indicative of how much a basketcase the ARU are atm.

In all honesty though right now Australia doesnt have the talent to have four competitive Super Rugby teams, the pool is just too shallow.

NZ time and again have shown that they will put their own self interest first and pick the TV money that comes from South Africa. Rugby fans in this country forget that the biggest rival traditionally for the All Blacks are the Springboks, so the NZRU have no loyalty or interest in helping save Australian Rugby.

So if Super Rugby was to fall apart, the NZRU would sooner look after their own backyard and revert back to their own domestic competition than link up with Australia for a few extra dollars. They only play Super Rugby so they get the South African Dollar and regular matches against them.

1 million isnt a lot for grass roots when you think about it

$1m isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things but the ongoing financial viability of RWA is a concern.

I would like to see a breakdown of where registration fees go. IIRC a percentage goes up the chain to the high performance end which is pretty insulting to WA community rugby players.

Rugby WA is rugby in WA. They go under and GRR will be a waste of time. The whole reason rugby works in WA is because there is a strong local competition. They didn't just plonk the Force here and hope people might like the sport.

Rugby has problems in every market it’s in, I love the Rebels but I don’t know about them at the moment there are 3 Vics regularly getting a game at the Brumbies. How? How have they been let go? The pathways in Vic and the game at a junior level is growing with new clubs opening up. But then on the other hand the senior comp is shrinking.

On a positive note we have had 5 vics play for the Rebels this year and one who only misses through injury.

I know you don’t want to sell out but I think we need to sign up for the World league the income that would generate for Australian rugby would be massive. With that money we could stop talented juniors defecting to the NRL helping to raise the standards of the Super sides

A big positive is the junior wallabies, the academy system they have put in place to keep young talent in the game seems to be working hopefully they can back this performance up in the coming years

A World League isn’t going to happen. It’s more likely that the English sell off their Premiership to Private Equity which is followed by the 6 Nations doing likewise for that competition so that they don’t have to introduce promotion/regulation which leaves SAANZA holding the can once again.

The Northern Unions aren’t interested in helping out the Southern Unions and that’s why the awful plan for a World League got leaked.

Well what do you know. World Rugby is not going ahead with the World League because it doesn't have the support from the European Unions....

World Rugby has abandoned its plans to create a Nations Championship after failing to gain support from unions, the sport’s ruling body said on Wednesday.
Rugby’s governing body needed unanimous approval from the 10 countries that make up the Six Nations and Rugby Championship — including Australia and New Zealand — to enter into exclusive negotiations.
World Rugby identified the inability to reach a consensus on key issues such as the timing and format of promotion and relegation as the reason for scrapping the project.

The 4 SAANZAR Unions supported the World League, but needed the Europeans to carry it and once the prospect of promotion/relegation was brought up for the Six Nations the World League was dead in the water. Ah well hope the TV Rights for Super Rugby are well sort after

For the record the San Francisco 2032 agreement take effect for a Global calendar agreement which sets out an international schedule from 2020 until 2032

Personally much better than a World League that takes away from the World Cup and doesn't help the Tier 2 nations in any meaningful way on field.
