How many goals can Chris Dawes kick in 2011?

People are harping on how our game style doesn't suit big bags of goals, however, in the past few years we haven't had a powerhouse full-forward ala Brown/Riewoldt. If Dawes does continue to improve, and can assert himself on the competition he can quite easily kick 65-75+.

The mor goals he starts to kick, the more he will command of the ball, it is just natural that players will kick it to him if they know he is going to pluck it and convert with a goal.

You're spot on Frankie, to those saying our gameplan doesn't suit a power forward, just consider for a minute, if Clokey had the accuracy of Plugger for example then he would have gone close to the ton over the last couple of years (each). Don't try to kill this statement by showing his totals of goals and points because you also need to take into account the number of shanked kicks that resulted in no score or even OOF. Also don't forget that if we do dominate the comp as many expect we will then scoring oportunities are going to be greater as well. On top of this we also have to accept that Dawesy possesses more talent and has a better footy brain, than most of us (yeah me too) previously thought!

I'm going to stick my neck out and say at least 4...

He'll create and give off alot more than he'll end up kicking.
50 would be handy.

Actually agree with this - I think he's a really team oriented player (watch the GF replay). Kind of don't care how many he kicks, just how many games we win.

Having said that I think anything over 50 would represent a really good year for him.

If he stays fit and plays FF for the majority of the season, anything under 40 will be a disappointment. 40 to 55 is a pass mark and 55+ is a great achievement.

Perfect summation I reckon.

Our boys' confidence in Dawes will be increasing all the time and they'll likely start to look for him more and more.

Which may or may not be a good thing...last thing we want is to be like St Kilda looking for Riewoldt vs 3 opponents every time.

If you break it down, 70 + isn't out of the question for Dawesy.:)

We are very likely to play 25 games this season (22 home and away, 2 finals and a Grand Final), so if he only averages 3 goals a game (4 in one week so far) then he would obviously end up on 75.

I'd say he will end up in the 65-75 goal range after the season is fully completed, which would be a great return for a player playing his first full season as a senior footballer (wasn't in our side for the first few weeks last year, then was dropped after the Brisbane loss).

If he stays fit, you never know though, there are some very weak teams out there (yes, even weaker then Port) so he could add a couple of "bags" to that total.:D

On ABC today, two commentators were in agreement that Dawes is the best forward in the game. Drew Morphett was one. Amazing how far a bloke can come after being lambasted for not taking enough overhead marks in the VFL only a year ago.
