The time has come for a player to adjust his behaviour in a contest to reduce the risk of injury to an opposing player.
Rioli said he thought his duty was to commit to the contest. Frankly, that's the problem. It's time for the player's priority to be protecting other players from injury.

Rioli may have been slightly reckless but can only imagine the media reaction if Rowell was stretchered off and out indefinitely as a result of the contact, im guessing he would have received 4 weeks. Luck Rowell is a tough cookie.
Sadly high marking or running with the flight will become a thing of the past.

Disgraceful. He lined Rowell up and tried to take his head off.

Bahahaha numpties. Look the umpires didn't call a free, Rowell said it was fair, the fans at the ground clapped, the commentator at game didn't raise the issue, the AFL social media poster tweeted both player brave. Trial by dumbass fans is truely the worst.

Interesting decision and can’t wait for an identical incident in the coming weeks when a player cops 2+ weeks for it.

Glad it was overturned. Right decision prevailed.
If Willie wanted to hurt Rowell, he could've sent him into next month. Rioli cleary thought as he jumped he would be able to get the mark, as he was almost at the contest he realised he couldn't take the mark and avoided making severe contact to Rowell.

Pretty simplistic way of looking at it and when have the AFL ever sacked an umpire? Umpire mistakes happen every week and a missed free kick is the norm these days.
Interesting precedent has been set but when has precedence ever been a factor anyway in this current AFL landscape I suppose.
Look do you agree if a player were to king hit another player right in front of an umpire and no free was to be awarded the umpire should get the sack? Because had rioli miss times that we would have had a similar impact incident.

Still not happy he's back playing footy at all. Should have got a life ban for drug indiscretions while banned for doping.
