I am going to miss my brother who is going abroad for 5 years. I'd like some advice on how to deal with that.

Please smart and sensible advice as I am very emotional at the moment.

Look after your kidneys, he might need one when he gets back.

The story had a familiar ring. Before New Orleans, people said it happened in Houston; before Houston, Las Vegas — where an unsuspecting tourist was drugged in his hotel room by a prostitute and woke up the next morning, supposedly, in a bathtub full of ice, minus a kidney.

Get on twitter and communicate on a regular basis with him while he's OS.
You should also attempt to save and get over there yourself at least twice while he's there

Start saving so you can visit him.

Get one of those big teddy bears, name him after your brother and have a word to him when you're missing the brotherly love. Alternatively, sign up to Skype.

Think back five years from now. Does it seem like it was yesterday? It will again in five years time.

If all else fails get your Mum pregnant and then you'll have another brother/sister/son/daughter/**** around.

i was gonna say, surely in five years at least one of you will make the journey home/away at least once or twice?

is there any reason that can't happen?

Dude, you're on the internet. You are talking to people you've never even met, that could be in England or America or next door to you. Skype, facebook, Twitter etc. It's pretty much the closest you can get to physically being with him.

My brothers kind of an arseh*le.. so I would love it if he went away for 5 years.

No advice shall be comin from me! :)
my brother moved to brisbane 6 years ago, decided 18 months ago after hearing too much sniping crap from him behind my back that i'd cut him off. been a brilliant decision

to the OP, if you care that much, make sure you can face to face chat online. get skype, or if you've both got iPads, facetime

yes - facetime can be used by 2 bro's can't it? it's not just for boobs..

Lol why is everyone being a dick to the OP ITT?
This.

The bloke comes in here looking for a little bit of advice.

As timtamWB said there are many ways to keep in contact. Skype is awsome. You can talk to your brother as much as you want.

I am sure he might come visit once or twice whilst he is away. You can always go to visit him aswell. What better excuse for a holiday than going to see your brother?
