How will you react to an appeal?

It will be ****ing awesome if they appeal because they will get shat on again. I am all for it.

Once that last door is slammed shut on the cheats, the rusted on bombre supporters might realise their players cheated and got caught.

It still baffles me how the players (and Hird) are so sure they are innocent when they have no idea what was injected into them?!!

The old we don't know what is was but we are 100% sure it wasn't illegal (despite a paper trail leading TB4 to the club) defense is truly bizarre IMO
Ever lost your car keys? Your phone?

People forget stuff. I'm sure it was fine.

Interestingly, under Scottish law there are three verdicts that a jury can give. Guilty, not proven, not guilty. Not proven and not guilty lead to the same result - an acquittal - but they are symbolically very different. I think by the language of the Tribunal it was very much a "not proven" finding.

Bit more to it than that.

I think that the last thing that the players should be doing is appealing.

1) the tide of public opinion is turning from players being victims to players avoiding responsibility for their actions. Appealing against anything other than procedure through the standard channels would further enhance this view (eg appealing against length of suspension imposed by taking the afl to the high court )

2) It is extremely unlikely to be upheld.

3) Players would still be ineligible to train or play while the appeal is being held. Best case, the appeal will take what 6-9 months

4) If the players did manage to get an injunction against the bans until the appeal was heard, and then lost the appeal, they would then have to start their 11 month ban after the verdict. The 2016 season will be much the same as the last 3 years, played under the cloud of the appeal and possible 11 month suspensions and if they lose 2017 will also be destroyed by the suspensions themselves. Also no club would want to pick them up so their playing options for 2017 and the future would be limited solely to their current clubs.

Would be a nightmare to appeal lose and have this drag on to 2017. I hope that they cop their bans, take some responsibility for their actions and move on in 2017.

They had the belief that the AFL would look after them. They actually did until it was taken out of the AFL's hands. That is why they handed over the forms. However, not a single player remembered about a single injection to inform ASADA, yet they remembered panadol.
Now they are complaining about their innocence when on so many levels the evidence points to their guilt. Why aren't they getting Dank to hand over his records? He'll have them even if he denies it.
If it actually was thymomodulin, why didn't the consent forms have that on them? The players defence has jumped from TA1 to thymomodulin abd back and yet TB4 is the only drug that fits the injection profile and the properties that Dank described. So they all consented to having a drug they knew was at least on the edge of being banned. Not a single player heeded the constant education of taking responsibility themselves of finding out if what they were taking was permitted.
They have nobody to blame but themselves now. Sure they can blame the club, but in the end they must take responsibility. Every footballer knows the code and if they don't they are being irresponsible.
I think Essendon fans like andrewb also chose to ignore that Dank was still arguing publicly only 24 hours prior to the AFL tribunal findings being made public that TB4 should not be banned.

Bit of an odd time to be arguing about the status of TB4, don't you think?

Certain players would have a genuine case. Some players may not have a case.

But, I'm pretty sure it won't be the club funding the appeal.

Look directly at the AFLPA - the player's union.

Hopefully the hundreds of other players who didnt cheat demand that the next enterprise agreement with the AFL doesnt involve the AFLPA as they push for a new body to represent their interests.

Because clearly the AFLPA couldnt care less about the players who did nothing wrong.

I feel you are a supporter of another club designed to make Essendon fans look like morons?

If I was an Essendon supporter I would hope so.
I resent that comment.

We don't need any help from anyone to look like morons, have you been paying any attention for the last 3-4 years!?

SMH so many dumb campaigners in this thread.

It would be in the charter of the AFLPA to look after the interests of every player no matter what.

To not do so would be seen by the players collectively as failing in it's duty to its membership.

Who will bankroll such a laughable appeal?

Chief.

He'd make 5 times the money back in advertising on the HTB while the saga drags on another year or so.

They can only assist to a certain level, it would come down to the professional opinion of a solicitor, if they believe that there isnt a big chance of success, then like any business, they will not take it to court. So the question needs to be asked what is the probability of a win on appeal, it has been suggested very slim.

You do throw good money after bad.

When the affected players went to the AFLPA office, they would have met with the AFLPA legal team - I'm not sure which legal firm is attached to them, but, there's probably some probono going on.

I believe this is the procedure I'll be following.

1. PMSL
2. Change underpants & probably pants as well.
3. Purchase new comfy (to my satisfaction) desk chair
4. Purchase large quantity of popping corn (Note to self: look into viability of cornering market)
5. Strap self into said new chair.

I very much doubt the charter says that.

Plus, the AFLPA has some serious egg on their face over the way they have chosen to defend the players. The comments coming out of the AFLPA easily match anything said by Dank and Hird.

From Patrick Smith? Spare me.

He obviously hates unionism - he does work for Murdoch after all.

Apparently we're only in the third quarter :p.

I wouldn't really care either way.
The whole AFL 'Industry' is looking as crooked as a dogs hind leg from where I'm sitting.
No matter what happens from here, damage control will be the order of the day, important questions won't be asked, Accredited media will mostly whitewash and everything will go away eventually.
