In fairness to Hawthorn fans, they werent the only ones that thought a GF (and to a lesser extent was a foregone conclusion). I seem to recall the BF feeling that Hawks had it in the bag as well. Having said that, I think the club has definitely shown a lot of arrogance over the last few years, clearly driven by the fact they won the 2006 flag with a young time and thought it would turn in to a dynasty.

Will never forget how the Hawks carried on before and after getting spanked by Freo in Perth a few years back. Then, wasnt it only a few weeks ago that Dermott claimed Freo had never won a final before? (only to be later corrected). Selective memory perhaps...

It seems like Dermott wasnt the only one with selective memory

Odd considering your club won the flag that very year

Hawthorn is propped up by their senior players who are now getting pretty old. I think all their arrogance in 2012 was definitely misplaced.

So what is it? We missed a big opportunity, because we had a great chance of winning, or we were overly confident and arrogant because our chances of winning were not that good? Did you forget that this thread was largely based on opinions published in an article from people outside the playing group? Suddenly Terry Wallace = Hawthorn? Is your Bigfooty handle some kind of rhyming slang?

History is now telling us the second (or third) placed team often win the flag.
since 2008 the top team has failed (or nearly failed in 2010) to land the flag

man, 11 pages of geelong and hawthorn supporters saying 'its not us, its you'.

a rivalry like this is a two way street, and BF is a poor reflection of the respect that actually exists between the two clubs.

pfft not on Grand Final day, Young folded over some pretty minimal contact - Hawthorn had a good run with the umps on the day, and the non-decision which led to Jack's goal was spot-on.
Spot on, as was your summary of the years of rivalry.:D

That's the point of the in the back rule = it doesn't take much force to remove someone from a contest with hands in the back.
Would it have been a free kick if someone like Nick Reiwoldt had been pushed out of the way, or Matty Lloyd ?
Dont want to go off topic but I didn't claim it cost the game or Sydney weren't deserved winners, perish the thought

While we're on the subject of rules disappearing on grand final day, anyone notice how often kicking in danger wasn't paid?

Malceski lucky not to have his head booted off by Shiels with a minute to go.

This week the old firm from Hawthorn said they were on the verge of greatness.

For years we've heard about the Hawthorn threat, how they're the best team going round. Yet again, they fell short. Hubris.

At the time, these comments may have seemed like hubris.

However, three flags in a row proves the old firm were right, and that we were in fact on the verge of greatness :thumbsu:
