Hurley looks to admit guilty, but not plead guilty...

The envy of opposition supporters gives me warm fuzzies!!!

Yes, Michael Hurley is one of the best young players in the comp and you are all shitting your pants at the thoughts of him tearing your team a new one...Round 22 Hawks fans??? We pulled your turbans off that day!!

I'm surprised that people seem surprised by the verdict, this was always going to have somekind of diversion program, probation, suspended sentence or dismissal attached to it.

If he'd monotonously beaten the cabbie, then it'd be different, but the courts would see 1-2 combinations being put through in evidence continuously from all over Melbourne after a saturday night.

What I hope Hurley has learnt from this, is when you get on the booze, you are not a big enough name to wander off from the cab without paying (as I believe was earlier alledged), and you sure as hell can't kick a guy in the nuts then punch him in the face if he demands money (that he's owed).

I think cabbie's are about as popular as ticket inspectors, but no one deserves to be belted at work.

Yep, collectively the AFL is hoping your player ends up in jail, as it'll be the only way anyone would ever beat Essendon for the next few years.

His intention was to come back after he got food, but the taxi driver thought he was doing a runner ran up and grabbed him.

Get over it people surely your day to day lives can not be affected this much by a footy player!!!! Yes bad situation he got into, yes punish him, but do you all seriously think he should be in jail??? Its not the match review panel hearing his case people (then we know he would get 2yrs) its the VIC Legal System....

Bombers are waiting till the case is finished with, lets wait till then hey.

Take some chillz a pillz

soft on crime, lol. He's a first time offender, what's so hard to understand?

If he's a first time offender (you're words) why hasn't Essendon fined him

could you be any dumber? It's before the courts

So what? Lovett is only being investigated, yet St.Kilda had the balls to suspend him indefinitely. Essendon could have done exactly the same thing.

double standards? How does that work exactly? Essendon aren't Carlton, you do realise that, right?

No they are not. However they have a player on their list that is bringing the club and the game into disrepute. I'm sure you're sponsors are happy with this "publicity" as well as the fact that this and other incidents involving Indians in our community are being broadcast over there.

Mate, in all likelihood, yes. And in his mind, I'm sure Michael thought he accurately described his desire to return and pay...but cabbie's see it all, and even if he was being irrational in asking for his money, Hurley assaulted him. Not on.

The point being, he doesn't need fans and administrative staff from EFC making excuses for him. This is where AFL players fail to grow up.

But you know, benefit of the doubt, he might have been gutted by his actions and you'll never hear from him again on an off-field issue. Lets hope so.

Essendon is furious, and GC17 are enquiring..... Rock and a hard place for the Dons. Whack him and he walks, but let him off and sponsors (and the Government, whose bigtime support EFC will need to redevelop Windy Hill) will be v v upset

Yes for a minor off season incident - the government will crack the schits if we don't cane Hurley for his actions.

I'm sure sponsors are incredibly worried - afterall there is asuch a track record......hang on no there isn't.

As GC17 - oh no they are interested in one of our players - geez we better worry ourselves sick, its not like we have cap space....hang on we do.

If Hurley were to leave because we sanctioned him then he is free to go here's hoping he accepts his penalty, whatever it may be, and learns from it. Last thing Essendon need is a Fevola/Carey coming through the ranks. (playing wise yes, off field no)

Verdict?

What verdict?

He has not even entered a plea yet!

FFS.

Yeah, Essendon has been like a monastery these last few years eh.... Lovett? Lovett Murray? McVeigh? Now Hurley?

Essendon is very familiar with the late night calls....

Govt is watching, I assure you. Brumby was made to look a goose over there, and he will not want those headlines again

For gods sake if it wasn't for the fact that the kid plays footy then this wouldn't even be worthy of discussion.

The Diversion Program is a good outcome for both parties - Hurley acknowledges (pleads guilty) that he is at fault, compensation is given to the victim if it is deemed appropriate. Hurley attends maybe anger management or counselling programs and takes part in some community service but most importantly is able to continue with his career without a conviction being recorded - it does not mean the conviction will be spent.

He is not getting off scott free as some seem to think - should he reoffend and be found guilty then this offence would be considered when sentencing was being taken into consideration.

This happens EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE WEEK and no-one takes any notice. What Essendon FC decide to do once the outcome is decided is what we can and know doubt will deride them for, but we shouldn't be hoping that a 19yr old kid goes to jail for what MAYBE was a rash, stupid, alcohol driven decision. I am also sick to death of the race card being bandied about - there is no indication it was a racially driven attack and therefore is totally irrelevant to this case - it was an assualt, end of story.

Agreed, he's not that flash anyway.

Such a terrible act - drunken abusive thug, and despite his pleas and contruition, simply unacceptable.

Essendon might well, as you suggest, be better to flick him

Whoa dont even try to compare the two crimes there mate, hope you never experience the act of rape and we all know it happens to guys as well, not cool.

The reason St Kilda took that action as it was his second incident in a couple of months after he was told to keep his nose clean, they are all responsible for the own actions.

And Hurley isn't responsible? Oh that's right, he's only 19 and didn't know any better . Even though he was part of the new player intake in '08 that explains to all new draftees their responsibilities both on and off the field.

It is also not cool to hit and kick a bloke who is just doing his job . An offence that can carry up to 2 years jail.

My point is that 2 clubs have made decisions on player behaviour (be they before the courts or not) and yet Essendon have done nothing in 5 months - NOTHING! Even for the fact that the club has admitted that he was drunk in a public place. Are they going to do anything about that now? :(

The courts will take care of Hurley, but not until March. Essendon need to take action now. The longer they let this drag out the worse it is going to be for Hurley and the club. This will not go away.

Not at all, and please, lets leave his skills out of the conversation. Also don't twsit my words into something they are not, never did I say "Essendon should flick him" I stated if he were to leave.

Seriously dude, pull your head in you are acting like a twat.

Just another chump with no life, but seems to know everything that goes on.

Get on with it. Not the first time a footy player has been in trouble, won't be the last. Everyone does dumb things when they are 19. It is not as if he killed the bloke. Yeah it was bad but it wasn't Greg Bird bad. Get on with it. Essendon will sanction him (my bet is 3 games)

Whereas Lovett should still be in the training squad, right?

Idiocy knows no bounds

what you talkin' 'bout Willis? Is Lovett before the courts yet?

Get off your horse. Lovett was banished, when no charges have even been laid, and yet Hurley trains on after supposedly bashing an innocent.

see, even you know the go. Lovett hasn't been charged, so he's not before the courts. In addition, they are completely different charges. What bearing do they have on each other?

Spot on.

There is no doubt Hurley needs to be taught a lesson with a good dose of humility and most importantly education.

If he is like most 19 year olds (and fit as a mallee bull) he thinks he is bullet proof and can do no wrong especially whilst drunk, hopefully he has been given a good kick in the cods to smarten him up. He should come out the other side a far better person for it.

Stop me if you think I'm wrong...

Hurley asks the cab driver to stop at Hungry Jacks. Hurley leaves the cab to purchase a late night snack. The cab driver then follows Hurley and a confrontation begins, either a foot to the groin and a slap to the face or a knocking off of the cab driver's turban. Hurley continues to eat his meal, someone rings the police (possibly the cab driver?). The cab driver requires no medical attention.

Essendon player or no Essendon, this whole alleged "bashing" story is weak as piss.

STOP!!! I think you're wrong.

You said the last thing you needed was another Carey/ Fev.... mate, Hurley is no Carey/ Fev

Betts is arrested for being too festive and is banished from the senior squad. Hurley seeks to plead guilty to kicking a worker in the nuts and whacking him across the head, via a diversion, and all is quiet at Windy Hill... Better watch out, cultures have been bred that way and, let's face it, Essendon's record is not the best when it comes to turning blokes around off the park - they'd rather trade them.

Twat? Are you 12?

Hopefully, Hurley knuckles down. He clearly has an alcohol and anger management problem, so he needs to get sober and repent, on and off the field. To deny this is, well, just sweeping another issue under a very lumpycarpet
