Multimillion-dollar contracts have been prepared which could make an historic hybrid conTest between the Kangaroos and the Wallabies a reality this October.

Interesting idea. However, they should have contested scrums.

I saw Bath play Wigan in a exhibition match which was a two legged affair. In the first leg, played under League rules, Wigan hammered Bath 82-6. England union wuss Jeremy Guscott refused to play. In the second leg Bath won 44-19.

I remember thinking the only Union player who looked anywhere near to hacking it at League was Mike Catt.

Of course the biggest laugh of all was when the Twickenham blazers had the bright idea one year of inviting the Superleague champions to enter a team in the Middlesex (union) Sevens, and, after just a few days' training, Wigan actually won it! A feat later repeated by the Bradford Bulls.

In the most recent example, then mid table Sale Sharks (RU) defeated then top of the table St Helens (RL) 41-39

Of course...the union half was 41-0 and the league half 39-0 (both halves played under the same scoring system). Now that both sports are so professional, it'll always be the case that the specialist side will win easily at their own game. Hybrid rules gets around that to some extent, but you just know whoever loses is going to claim the rules are in the favour of the other (unless the result was really close and maybe the game played over a few years with a mix of results).

This talk of trialling it at schoolboy level will not be that good an indicator in my opinion. Tactically they won't be able to exploit any problems in the hybrid rules to the same degree that full time, international players would.

I'd love to see it but the rules are a bit of a joke. They should have rucks and mauls for the entire field or unlimited league tackles. How the hell can you have limited tackles in half the field.
