I am not sure if Essendon will make the 8 next year

I still think it's pointless for the Bombers to make the finals as they are no where near a flag threat.

Please bogan, remember to make the distinction when talkabout a football team and Carlton. Yes we know Carlton aren;t a serious flag threat.

Oh and can you please tell me Hird is useless and past it.

cheers.

Is there a prize for the dumbest and most ridiculous and pointless post EVER on bigfooty???

You've got to be in it to win it.

Obviously a Carlton supporter who wants Essendon to reach the murky depths his team has, and the team that is still trying to find a solution to get out - gee, lets recruit some C-grade recruits and try our luck! CYA in 2008!

who says? we might play worse football and finish higher than what we did this year.

It is quite a simple concept really. Teams like the Saints and Hawks will improve and if you want to make the finals again you have to improve to stay ahead.

Sure it might not happen, but its pretty unlikely....

St.Kilda have the edge over Essendon in almost every department except the foward line and perhaps the ruck division.

Yep, the Saints have the edge over Essendon in virtually department except minor things like actually beating them in matches (5 wins in 23 years).

Essendon has a better defence, midfield and forward line than St. Kilda and Hawthorn.

Only severe injuries will rob the Dons of another top 8 spot. Very good chance for top 4 imo, especially if Rama can make it back.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ...
just had a look through this thread again and found this as a comedic masterpiece.

Sure St. Kilda might improve next year (or that's where their supporters are making us believe, but we've been hearing it every year for like a decade now...) , Essendon will finish above them and I have no doubt they can continue the trend of the last few years and not just beat them, but do it convincingly.

For the simple reason that I think St.Kilda will make the finals next year (top 4 if things go right) and the only team from this year's finals that looks the most shakiest is Essendon IMO.

The Crows are the most likely top eight side to miss the finals next year. I would put Essendon on the second line of betting with West Coast and Port Adelaide, with Freo a chance of going backwards as well.

No way. No reason for the Crows to slide.

Only Bickley missing for next year, and likely that the Crows first 22 players won't have as many missed games.

Expect the Crows do do better next year than this year if anything.

boofhead blue, just worry about your own team.
Your recruitment of duds will not get you anywhere,as for allan&murphy we cant lose on that deal we got them for peanuts

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Presumably all teams will improve next year, so you need to extra-improve to stay ahead of the pack.

I was impressed with the development of the Essendon young players last year, but they still seem to lack some pace through the midfield.

Dont forget.... with both teams fully fit:

Essendon 17.17.119

St.Kilda 7.9.51

68 point victory to Essendon. (Rd. 14, 2003)

That's amazing, considering St. Kilda have "the edge over Essendon in almost every department"!
And considering Essendon have such a slow, aging midfield ... and St. Kilda are just so ridden with talented, fast midfielders!

Are you positive those scores are right?

100% sure. I was there!

Lloyd 8
Hille, McVeigh 2
Cupido, M. Johnson, Richards, Ramanauskas, Reynolds 1

Solomon, Hird, Lloyd, Welsh, The Johnsons and Lucas were superb.

I think he was being sarcastic. :)

We also saw the peak of Grant Thomas coaching nous, where he threw Gehrig, Kosi, Riewoldt, Hamill and Brooks forward in a grand ploy to destroy the Essendon defence with unbelievable height...

...forgetting that our defence has arguably the best tall depth in the league, the move swiftly failed.

What happened to St.Kilda's much talked about defence in that game??
