Could not disagree more.

You cannot drop someone purely because "potentially" medhurst might come in and have an impact.

Lockyer has performed solid while he has been in the team. Perhaps he will taper off later in the season. I would rather wait till then to pull the trigger.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Wouldn't mind giving medhurst 2 games in a row to see what he can do now. If no good, locks back in by round 18-19 and the team should be close to seteld for finals by then. No?

What really gets me about these, rather prevalent, threads is that the OP and many of the respondents think that selection is made from within a vacuum.
That the senior coach, assistants, the VFL coach and the VFL side are somehow at odds with each other and that the idea of having a VFL side is too prevent players who perform there from gaining elevation or solely to punish players Mick has a personal grudge against.

We have a senior list and have used it, very, very intelligently this season.

Love Tarks but we need more speed in the squad to make the side even better he's that little bit thats holding us back and we want the best of the best of the best sir (MiB quote lol) i wanna see Josh Thomas get a gig. developing well in the vfl looks like it.

Blair won't be there in September. Early days in his career though. Lockyer shouldn't be but may well be. We should pension him off at the end of the year.

Personally I'd prefer a fit Dick/Medhurst and Macaffer staked a claim to stay in if/when they come back. Medhurst and Davis finding form are about the only missing ingredients at the moment.

Out Lockyer, Blair, Goldsack
In Cloke, Rounds, Maxwell

Dick, Medhurst (or Rusling!!!) can get selected in 2-3 weeks, depending upon VFL form. At the moment Rounds has the best form and should get the nod.

Unlucky for Goldy but Maxwell is an automatic selection.

(actually, Off that, isnt Cloke out for one more week???? If so Blair gets a repreive.)

I certainly thought OBree's future position was endangered by Ball's inclusion in the list, and has now been pushed toward the sunset with Blair, but I don't quite agree with the take on Lockyer.

Lockyer provides a fair bit of flexibility for the team, a la Leroy. His pressure is always first class as are his hands and kicking. The only issue I picked out was maybe not moving the ball on as quickly after taking a mark, but that's some intertia creeping in. The stop and prop has been mother's milk for a lot of years at Collingwood.

I'm not opposed to him being replaced by a Medhurst, Dick, Rounds etc on form, but I wouldn't be placing him in the done with camp.

Mick may well pick a Rounds type to see how he fares, and any AFL form may well determine Lockyer's future post 2010, but Lockyer to me cannot be written off just yet. Still has a lot to offer the team.

What's with the board's obsession with kids?

Rounds is not an upgrade on Tarkyn. Rounds is yet to play an AFL game. Tarkyn has played in excess of 200.

I don't get how everyone wants our 20th->22nd players to be BOG weekly, and have a hissy fit when they aren't. He was solid yesterday, that's all you can ask. If our 22nd player played like Tarks did yesterday every week I'd certainly take it.

Could not have said it better myself. Tarkyn contributed and was not our worst player. I'll take him over Rounds for now who is untried at the elite level.
