If last night was indeed Jonathon Brown's last game

Easily one of the greatest players to play the game, can't get much better than being part of 3 premierships.
Would rate him ahead of Carey and Riewoldt.

He's pretty far off Carey for mine. Would give him the edge over Reiwoldt though. Since about 2000 I'd have it as:

1. J Brown
2. W. Tredea
3. N. Reiwoldt

(I tend to think of Franklin as more of a flanker than a traditional CHF so I left him out of this list).

Great player, but not a great. Brisbane champion, but not an AFL champion. If he stringed full seasons together in the mid 2000's he would be rated higher but he didn't and you can't just ignore the injures and assume he'd have kicked 75-80 goals in 2005-6,10.

Tredrea, Riewoldt and Hall ahead of him in the long running best "CHF" since Carey debate.

Legitimate champion but it's really difficult to measure where he stands amongst the best. I think people overrate him a little bit just for the way approached and went about playing the game i.e. with the crashing of packs and the true CHF play. He is probably slightly overrated because of the 3x premiership player tag.

On the other hand he played in an era of great forwards and because there were so many of them it is easy to think they grow on trees and accordingly underrate him. I'd have him ahead of Pavlich, Lucas, Treadrae and Richo but not as good as Barry Hall and Reiwoldt who I think are the best centre half forwards of that era. Obviously Carey is goat. So anyway I think he was pretty bloody good, probably would think higher if it weren't for injuries.

Surely taking the piss.

A very good player, well short of the all time great forwards.

What could have been. Needed another two years of his 07,08,09.Easy to forget how good he was in those years though. 2006 was a shame...damn shame. Not many would have been able to argue with a Brownlow and a Coleman to his name. His best is better than Tredrea and Riewoldt, they just simply where at the top of their games for longer.

At their best N. Riewoldt was a great player in a good team, Brown was a great player in a great team. If my life depended on a player kicking a goal, I would pick Brown over Riewoldt every time.
To hold down CHF in the greatest team of all time as a teenager is a fair effort. Suspensions in his early years and injuries in his later years (as well as playing in a spudly team) have robbed us of seeing how good Brown was. Love that comeback game V Essendon where he kicked 8 - that was Careyesque. Not at Carey's level on field but certainly a better captain and leader off-field. On par with Tredea, Nick Riewoldt and Pavlich but a notch below Carey.

Have to disagree with those saying he is overrated. Apart from skill, he has shown great leadership and courage which you could see his team mates play better just with his presence on the field.

And umpires pet? Please...... One of a handful of players who doesn't sook when manhandled by defenders constantly.

If he played in the 80s early 90's would be one of the greatest ever. This era is all about the athlete not the footballer. As I said earlier, played football the way I liked it being played.
