If Natanui slides...

I would take Naitanui at Pick 1 - I am so excited to see this kid's career evolve!

My only problem is that the ruck position in general is pretty useless unless they get around the ground. But put him up forward there is simply NO way you could stop him. His tackling is absolutely awesome too, his teammates would love him on their team.

He's twice as fast as Buddy, twice as athletic, three times more aggressive and surely can't be worse in front of goal!

Well top 4 tiger, all I can say is thank goodness your not on Melbournes selection comittee as your analysis is a bit flawed for mine. If RFC took him at 8 and I would still have concerns as to wether or not he will be able to make the grade.

It hasn't taken long for most people to see the kid is raw as an uncooked egg. As such, he requires a HUGE amount of development to be a top player.

All that said, I suspect his AFL draft camp tests (mental) will play a very big part in the position he gets drafted. If he tests well with reaction times etc then he may well go 1 with the club knowing it has got a long road ahead but they may have a unique champion. If he doesn't test so well in that facet then there should rightly be BIG questions on how his career will go. Enough to go for someone like Rich or Watts every day and twice on Sundays.

Also, you mention that ruckmen are not much use unless they can get around the ground. Normally I would agree...but NOT in this case as I think he will be able to get such a clear hand on the ball to drop it to whereever best suits his team. This is the sole reason he is considered number 1 material. It will still be a couple of years before he knows the tricks of the AFL and so he probably wont be completley dominant in this area for a while.

Now as for you saying :
He's twice as fast as Buddy, twice as athletic, three times more aggressive and surely can't be worse in front of goal!

Twice as fast as buddy .. so that's about a 6 second 100m. Twice as athletic...so he could jump about 10 feet high...three times more agressive, so he's going to be suspended each week...but at least he is no worse in front of goal.

Having said all that I would still be very dissapointed if the RFC overlooked him at 8.
