hmm, off side, FB and both back pockets cannot go past the centre line. No kicking backwards at anytime. Also, not in the actual game per se, but perhaps I could moot the idea of a mid-season draft for people like M. Gardiner???:thumbsu:

The backwards thing is coming into play next year isnt it? Or is that just for pre season?

3 points for rushed behind.
State of origin.
Extend season to allow all teams to play each other twice.
Make sure the AFLPA MVP becomes the biggest individual award in footy instead of Brownlow.

Yeah damn right about the 3 points for rushed behinds, Ive been saying the same for a very long time. Yet whenver I bring it up with my friends, they think its ridiculous and say, 'Well how are they supposed to defend?" Whats ridiculous? Cheap defending? You shouldnt be rewarded for not being able to clear the ball, or get it going offensively somehow.

Exactly! But, only for the gutless rush behinds. If however you're 2 points up and a bloke for the other team is running into the goals and you manage to tackle him and stumble over the line, i dont think it's fair to be put down as 3 points.
It might make for a bit of umming and ahhing for the umpires but they'd get it right eventually.
Don't worry, i get bagged for airing that opinion too but i reckon it's the right way to go.

Yeah as long as the defender didnt have the last possession before it went over. You're right the umpires would get it right eventually, and there would be some dodgy calls as we've seen with the intentional out of bounds decisions.

After kicking out after a behind, a rushed behind is worth 3 points until the defending team clears the opposition 50 arc.

Yeah that soudns reasonable, however I also think that going for the safe option when there is 30 players inside the 50 is ridiculous. As for the quick tap outs and releases, well it only makes it that much more frustrating for the offensive team who have just been robbed of a goal maybe, and even a 12 point turn around the other end.

home and away season

brush the post and go through - goal. (hit the post and not go through - point, not still in play)
backwards kick in back half (or behind centre square or something) - play on.
relax diving on ball rule. player must have time to get rid of ball and fail to have attempted to dispose of ball before a penalty.
play to stop after behind until umpire blows whistle (old rule restored. nothing against speed but i think the rushed behind is too attractive now and i don't like the three point rule)

preseason (not trials - i'm just curious to see what would happen)

cut three players (nominally centre line - flankers move towards middle more)

i think that is way too complicated and subjective. umpires will get that wrong a lot.

That's the biggest problem with umpiring. People are too impatient and don't give things a chance to work themselves out so there's all these rule changes all the time.

don't like it. rushed behind isn't that common. revert to old slow kick in rule to make it less attractive.
State of origin.
would be great to see it again with current crop and spread of the game in the nation
Extend season to allow all teams to play each other twice.
season too long with present number of teams. which three or four teams would you cut?
Make sure the AFLPA MVP becomes the biggest individual award in footy instead of Brownlow.
this will happen slowly over time by player and public decree if it is to happen at all. can't be rushed.

Which 3 or 4 teams would you cut? Mmmm sorry I dont agree, maybe relocation, maybe merger, but dont cut them.

it was meant more to be a provocative statement to point out the difficulty of implementing a double season. i'd prefer the teams to stay as they are as much as they can. by the way, relocation won't help reduce the number of teams.

No you can't force it onto people, but you can certainly do what you can to promote it more, no doubt.
I give it 3-5 years before it really starts to get some attention.

I don't know you so can't claim friendship but IT IS REDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A goal is worth 6 yet you want two rushed behinds to be worth equal:confused:

Umpires have enough trouble interpreting surely you are not suggesting every behind that comes off a defenders last touch? That would mean bomb from outside 50 to the line might be worth half a goal

Part of the game for 100+ years..... behinds do not win footy matches but there are very few that matter.... Travis Johnstones in drawn match V geelong .....did count BIG TIME!

Like I said somewhere, itd be similar to the decision making for intentional boundary rushing. There is a clear difference between the example you made, and say, what Mal Michael did this year.
