I just meant you might need to keep the fact you came to them because it would be easier to get a game on the down low in the changerooms. We also have players who have moved on for better opporrunities but I suspect they are careful what they say.
Any team bias gets thrown out the window when you get drafted. I'd go and play in Tassie if I needed to just to get an opportunity, however if the opportunity arose to play in a state that is big on footy like Vic, WA or SA that'd be awesome.

Ultimately AFL "clubs" are employers, the idea of club love still gets pushed but it's a draft, you don't get a choice.

Too old nowadays, the Bombers were very good to the EDFL players back in those days, i think maybe 7 or 8 of us got an invitation from our club. They went out all over the place to the under 17 teams. Local area kids, most of them all barracked for Essendon except me!

I'd be on the long term injury list the moment I walked through the door. It'd be a case of "general oldness" keeping me off the park. That, and the fact I've never been any good.

I wouldn't mind as long as I play in a footy state (VIC/SA/WA).
The idea of waltzing through the streets of Melbourne with my head in the clouds and screaming fans asking for a photo would be awesome.
If I was drafted to a NSW/QLD team I would trade as soon as I can. I wouldn't be able to find the passion to train for that kind of team.

Interesting topic, I always dreamed of playing for Richmond growing up, and would of been somewhat disappointed not being drafted to the tigers. In saying that, I'd of still been happy to be drafted to any club, just would of been a little strange coming from a Richmond family.

My uncle was a rusted on Carlton fan but the second Melbourne picked him he begun supporting them and never looked back so I guess it's pretty easy to change teams if you play with them every week (and earn a pay packet)

Nope, would not want to play for the club I support.
Something to think about is this.
Kids grow up idolising their heroes and supporting their chooses team to the death. These talented kids though start playing serious rep footy at 15. From then on their so busy they would hardly actually watch the team they supported on telly or atleast less than the average Joe like ourselves. By the time u18 Tac, SANFL, wafl comes around they would just be mainly focused on making it onto any list. A lot of them have spend the last 4 years worried about themselves and the teams they play their afl teams might not seem so important. Then on draft day deep down they would be hoping for their childhood team. Just an opinion and I may have got lost half way through but does it make sense sort of

Yeah, how shit would it be being drafted to Hawthorn and being coached by the best in the business.
Now you've just got follow up this blinkered viewpoint by posting in a game day thread that you're a 'nuetral' supporter.
While I tend to favour non-Vic over Vic clubs, I didn't my dislike of Hawthorn was been a pretty recent thing. Last year's GF was more us just not turning up to play, though. We probably weren't good enough in finals. 2005 was just agonising to watch lol. I don't know how I could bear it if we'd lost in 2006, the tension...Kinda know how Geelong supporters felt in '94, but it wasn't so close...

I'm sure many would watch plenty of footy, but maybe from the perspective of a player, analysing it in a more technical way, but I'm sure many are still diehard supporters. It makes sense many diehard supporters are also passionate players no?

Anderson to Roos, Hallahan to GCS. Both for opportunity at lesser clubs. Kennedy to Swans. McGlynn to Swans.
Buddy, Suckling, Ellis and Young were for the money. Which is also fair enough.
