So on Monday, Carlton announced a new ground sponsorship with "Ikon Services" which will be, to quote Mark LoGiudice, for a "significant period of time".
Does anyone know anything about these guys? Their website is 'coming soon', they have one office in North Melbourne and they have no real commercial presence to speak of. How did these guys suddenly manage to get the naming rights on a long term basis?
I'm not necessarily saying that anything untoward is happening, but it seems very strange to me, especially as the previous sponsor was a multi-billion dollar company. Does anyone with better knowledge than me know anything about the arrangement or whether this company has some sort of personal affiliation with the club?
It just took me by surprise, especially considering some of the major sponsors Carlton has always been able to attract.

It all seems very abrupt and a little bit strange to me. Is Ikon another larger company that has changed its name recently? Google searches give very little information.

Very odd. Are you sure this isn't some sort of hoax, 49?
I have no idea, but the information came through an article on the CFC official website so it's hard to imagine what exactly the hoax is. It's not Aprils Fools, nor was yesterday any significant date as far as I can tell.
I'm just as curious as you to know what is going on, hence the thread

From that 3aw article we are to believe that a $500,000 yearly corporate sponsorship isn't enough to obtain ground name rights, meaning that Ikon services must be paying $1,000,000+ a year for the privilege.

Interesting move and pretty sure this was more brought about by Visy pulling out. Safe to say the new sponsorship is a lot less than what Visy were tipping in.

Don't be so sure. I read Visy had pulled their money back to 1.5M a few years ago and only 500K last year.
