Best mates with Joe Daniher, guess which one was captain of their school team? (Hint: not Joe.) Liam was a midfielder who sprouted, and you can see it in his ridiculously good small-man game. The lad has tricks.
Since Round 1 of the 2013 VFL season, when the 18-year-old debuted for Coburg with 4 goals, Tiger cub watchers knew we had something special on our hands. He was a string-bean, a whippet, but boy he could play.
He continued with consistent goal tallies, including another bag of 4 and consecutive hauls of 6 and 5, before doing an ankle in a VFL cow paddock when he should have been playing against the dirty stinking Blues on the MCG.
That finished his season at 14 games for 37 goals, two fewer goals in one fewer game than the far more hyped Jesse Hogan. Only once was he held goalless, and only one other time did he fail to kick at least two goals.
Last year he was still hampered by the ankle, but a return of 37 goals from 15 games saw him just one short of sharing the Frosty Miller Medal.
Here's him kicking 5 against Casey in the depths of last winter:
This year he has 12 goals from four games, to lead all-comers in the VFL. A bag of 5 last weekend was his 15th haul of 3 or more in 33 games, despite being skinny and in a mostly poor side. He's kicked 2 or more 26 times.
Here's his 5 last week:
Now you all get to see him, on the big stage. Hardwick's forward set-up will do him no favours and the coach will judge him on pressure acts and star-jumps on the mark rather than goals, but those of you with a keen eye will hopefully see what your Richmond mate has been so excited about for the last two years.
