If Rocca is right he is in. Even though we had a big win last week without him we played against trash. If Hawthorn(or anyside) don't pay him respect then we cant be held responsible for what he might do. I don't know much about the hawks defence , do they have 2 big backs to go with Rocca and Cloke.

Croad will stand one of them. Then you've got probably Brown (body strength but not height) to stand the other guy with chop outs or third man up from Gilham/Murphy/Birchall. We don't tend to play monsters on monsters, as we simply don't have enough of them, so we go with zones and numbers at the fall.

Looking forward to seeing your Brown against our forwards, I went along to Box Hill to see Thorp play last year, and he was lined up against Brown for Williamstown. Good contest.

disagree, we need speed agianst the hawks, burns if fit must come in, but rocca would have to replace a tall, which tall would we leave out? wood and play rocca in the ruck?

If rocca has a muscle injury he will need more than one week.

I agree that he should play and that it wouldn't be wise to leave the side unchanged because Hawthorn is a far different opposition to Essendon. Last season he missed the match against Hawthorn which Collingwood should have won with accurate kicking, and he would have made the difference. In 2006, he kicked 12 goals in two matches against Hawthorn. In his last two seasons, he has kicked 55 goals and 54 goals, which is the most of his career. If he is fit then he has to play. Collingwood needs hard bodies against Hawthorn, and to see Burns fit to play his 250th finally will definitely be welcome too!

If its wet or any sign of rain then Pebs is going to be left out of the team. Personally im happy to have him in if its wet. Thoughts

Play the big guys in the wet. Use Rocca to create a contest and ensure that the ball hits the deck. This will give Medhurst, Davis and any of the smaller rotating forwards a better chance to snatch a few goals off the deck. Even if stoppages ensue, it's still better to have the ball caught in the F50.

You can guarantee that our big forwards will try to do the same with Osbourne and Rioli.

If Rocca is fit enough he should play whether it is wet or dry. 2002 GF he was great on a wet day. He is confident against Hawthorn. He has what we need to beat Hawthorn and that is the capacity to take contested marks close enough to goal. He may not fire but we have other set-up options - even if it is to use him as a decoy for Medhurst. If he fires we will though. We need to get it to him quick and accurately.

But what about his ankle in slippery conditions?

Rocca isn't fit when he's fit but he's tall/strong/a good mark whether fit or not.. If he's "fit enough" play him unless it's a downfall.
Personally I thought Wellingham was better last week than Clarke has been in any game this year.. He was stiff but it's pretty obvious MM wants to go conservative against a good unit. He'll get enough chances to prove himself tho and from what I've seen he looks like a pretty good prospect who's not scared of the jump from VFL to AFL (I.e. Stanley, Toovey, Egan, etc)

Not so sure if the above mentioned players are scared of AFL, maybe they took a couple of games to adjust but still haven't proven themselves at the top level. That is what makes Wellingham's debut so impressive, was a useful player and made few mistakes and no really bad unforced ones - and straight from the rookie list. Looks like he will be a great mid for us in the near future. Even from a top 5 pick it would have been an impressive debut I think, in fact if he was a top 5 it'd be all over the media after that game what a great player he is going to be .

You tosser!!! Scared of the jump from VFL to AFL. WTF Have a look at the team we played last week Essendon!! I could have got kicks and looked great against them also. They have a crap midfield and is not accountable. Lets not get carried away. Lets look at the VFL this week and see how the scared players go against Geelong I bet they shine against hard bodies. They all want to play AFL and make it. They should all be given consecutive games to prove their ability not just put them in against the weak teams.
