Incredibly unpopular opinion: I hate the Auskick kids presenting the Premiership medals

Hate it.

This is something the players have dreamed of all their lives. To play in a winning premiership. And at the moment they go to get their medal what do they get told? "GIVE THE HAT TO THE KID DON'T FORGET TO GIVE THE HAT TO THE KID". It shouldn't be about some kid in that moment, it should be about the players. Scrap this stupid concept and bring back a legend of the game handing out the medals. Would mean a hell of a lot more being able to shake hands with Ron Barassi or Malcolm Blight or someone of the like and being told well done by them.

It's Grand Final day. They've just won the flag. Give the players one moment for them. Stuff the kids.

Why hand out medals at all? We should go back to the old days when the captain took hold of the cup, the sides changed jumpers, and they did a lap of the ground.

And bring back the VFL with six different matches at six different grounds. Bring back the final four. Bring back deliberate out of bounds. And bring back the men only MCC.

Can't agree, whilst I don't agree about the media demonizing players who absentmindedly fail to give hats to them/shake their hands really it's not that hard to do. It takes 5 seconds and will probably be something that kid remembers for the rest of their life as a special moment.

To say it takes it away from the players is pretty absurd too, the coverage focuses almost solely on them celebrating and they become instantly immortalized by their fans and the footy viewing public everywhere. Not a bad trade-off to give up 5 seconds of your time for.

I think it's wonderful... however... I feel there are too many white kids involved. Hopefully this year we have at least 3 asians, a muslim, 3.5 aboriginals and more indian kids! It is AFL's responsibility to show what a wonderful multicultural and harmonious society we live in.

Agree, should be a footy legend or the PM presenting winning medals. Most big events do it this way around the world. AFL just do the warm and fuzzy kid thing for PR sakes. They absolutely screw the average punter on GF day.

Maybe just get the kids to line up next to the podium to high five the and clap the players.

It's completely irrelevant and I hate it. Just have a club legend present the medals or something, for some reason I just feel is almost 'cheapens' the grand final by trying to chuck in some positive PR as opposed to a football game.

There's always a couple of real fat ones that look like any form of exercise is good for them.

I would also like to see more bad behaviour from the players towards the kids. Putting the hat on backwards, forgetting to give the hat etc has been done, lets take it next level Hawks or Freo players.

Have Crowley & Balla tag them :D

Think there's a lot more to be annoyed about on GF day than who hands out the medals. Such as the prematch 'entertainment'.

I thought it was amusing that "give the players one moment". They are going to get weeks of celebration for themselves. If we are going to spiel out random crap, I could say I think having kids there allows players to yahoo a bit as well - if it was respected club legend A handing out the medals, I think we would see less "that's what I'm talking about!" and Irish jigs.
