Incredibly unpopular opinion: I hate the Auskick kids presenting the Premiership medals

"I have children therefore my opinion is more important than yours" is among the dumbest ideas ever put forward on the internet.

No it just makes an opinion on the subject a bit less valid. Any parent would love to see their child present a medal on grand final day, others with no kids couldn't give a shit, hence this thread.

lol this old argument

The AFL doesnt owe kids a memory like this on its biggest day, it owes the players

It should be catoring to make the player experience the best it possible can be, and having to deal with a kid giving the medal and the hat exchange doesnt do that, its awkward and not fitting for the occasion

The most valued medal in the competition should be given out by an important member of the AFL, be it a past champion of the winning club, the AFL CEO or some other high ranking official etc.

I see and hear where you are coming from, but honestly I wouldn't be the one to change it now.

It's not about owing the kids anything, it's a nice gesture that the AFL extends to it's youngest fans.

No it doesn't. My argument had nothing to do with the kids themselves. I was talking about the players.

Do you really think that the players care who gives them their medal? I think this is more about what sort of sentimental stuff you yourself would like to see, because as far as I can tell the players are simply overjoyed about winning.

I honestly cannot see what the problem is. I wouldn't have former players doing it. Some of them would have spent the entire match in the bar, and it's not about them, it's about the 22 players and coach who just won the flag. The kids know their role and do it well. They take the back seat while the player gets the attention. For some of those kids, it will be a highlight of their lives. I'm never backward in coming forward to criticize the AFL, but this is one area they've got right.

At the Peter Crimmins Medal night it was disclosed how hard the players' wives had to fight to get the players' own kids onto the ground after the match. Finally some common sense prevailed in the end.

You're right, it doesn't owe the kids anything. It also doesn't owe any ex player or important member of the AFL or the AFL CEO or any high ranking official anything either. I'd rather the medal to the current champion be handed out by a possible future champion than an has-been ex player or even worse a politician, administrative official or representative of a sponsor. Now there's awkward.

I've never seen it to be particularly awkward (ok, so some of the players are taller than others and have to bend lower but that's hardly a reason to cease the practice) and I believe it is very fitting for the occasion.
