This is true and it works.There's good arguments to say not to tape unless the ankle is already injured or particularly susceptible. It builds strength, flexibility and response in the area. If you tape, you make the tape do a lot of the work that the muscles would normally do thus weakening the area.
When I cant be bothered I just throw a roll of tape at the missus and go grab a beer.
