Ins and Outs vs. Essendon

IN: Stanley/Wellingham or Burns (if fit), Anthony (though im sure MM will bring in Maxwell)
OUT: Holland, Reid

We do not need 3 tall forwards, especially when our small forwards are in good form, it just doesnt work and the opposition rebounds so easilly out of our 50. Reid is still not up to it and needs to regain form in VFL, he also needs to keep his feet in contests.

Don't see why Holland was called up in the first place as he had shown nothing at VFL level, he is past his best. The young guys such as Stanley or Wellingham deserve a shot in the middle, though MM seems to be intent on never giving them a chance in the middle what so ever.

not sure why johnson has to go, I thought he played with passion. Holland was injured in first half so just needs to recover and get fit. I would like to see Reid get a few weeks in the forward line and give Wellingham a go. As I see it rgiht now we have gone backwards on last year and need to plan for life post rocca and burns. It may cost us this year but will give us a shot at a flag in 2011.

After listening to the VFL game, sounds like one of Wellingham or Iles has to come in. Both have been excellent by the sounds of it.

I would like to see the following...\

Out: Reid.

Purely match-ups. I don' think Essendon have enough tall forwards to justify both Brown and Wakes in the backline together, so would move Brown forward and leave Reid out. Unlucky.

In: Wellingham.

Need another runner against Essendon.

Although I think Maxwell will come in. This assumes Burns is another week away

i seem to remember last Anzac day collingwood bit the bullet and dropped Licuria and Isles ( i think) and bought in Brad Dick, then when you were over-running us in the third quarter it was so evident that you had to much pace
Our side has changed a lot since then, but for me, id be delighted if you left O'bree in, gives us an obvious match up for Watson (who is the slowest player on earth)

Should be a good game, but Rocca is due as is Cloke, its season over for us if we dont win i suspect

Johnson is far to one sided.

The amount of times he's been running down the right wing and has had to turn onto his left side and put himself under enormous pressure and turn it over.
Pendlebury is pretty one sided on his left too, but the difference is he gets away with it.

Pendles is one-sided, but he's not a hook-footer. Part of Johnson's problem is that he not only needs his left, but he often needs to run a huge arc before putting boot to ball. There was at least one occasion last night along the Members wing when if he'd been able to kick on the right, he could've just chipped it 20m to another player on the wing. Instead he had to cut back inside and kick under pressure. And we had him taking the kickouts!

Fair point, a ball kicked long to a contest is considered an "effective kick", even when it's to the disadvantage of a teammate in the contest, or if there was a teammate 20m in the clear who was ignored.

Is that right? No wonder after watching a match live I sometimes look at the kicking stats and scratch my head. There are actually several of our players who are flattered by the kicking stats. Dane Swan in the Herald-Sun, I think, was down for one clanger, yet his kicking was absolutely horrible. Barely hit a single kick sweetly all night. At least twice kicked it way over the head of a leading target...

We need speed to combat Essendon, and looking at our reserves i cant find anyone with genuine speed

Maybe Wellingham, Cook or JMac can get a run???

But we have to get rid of Holland and Reid(to find some form), although Mick has a tendency to give young fellas 2 weeks to prove themselves

Ins : Anthony, Dawes, Wellingham
Outs: Holland, Reid, Johnson

Dawes is a marking machine. All young players lift when playing seniors some are just not ready. Reid IMO was pushed off the ball easily all night. Dawes is a monster.
sorry mate but i went to the VFL today and dawes looked pretty hopeless i think he only got the one goal and that was when collingwood were rampaging, barely did anything all day about 6-7 touches max. i reckon!

I am probably going to get my head ripped off for this but just bare with me for a sec.
Is there a possibility that Bear Bryan can come in for Rocca??
Bear has ALOT more physical pressure out on the ground than Pebs, CAN kick just as far as Pebs, very strong mark plus has second and third efforts when the ball hits the ground...... if not then i say bring him in for Ben Reid, Bryan was very good today vs Frankston....i went and took some photos but the sun was in a real bitch of a spot so they didnt turn out to well but i will upload them if anyone wants to see them!

lol Egan?
Yeah lets make me even more depressed.

Maxy will come in, even though i don't think there is an obvious matchup for him, he is an MM fave, and they get a game just for being them.

I don't want to see Reid out after one game, i want to see him have one more match, but against the Bombers we may be too tall down back so Brown will be released up forward meaning Reid isn't really needed.

Oh and drop Holland please, talk about a massive step backwards.

I think Stanners injured himself in the second quarter against Carlton.

Yeah Stanners ankle didn't pull up on Friday. Wasn't training with main squad I noticed . He didn't pass fitness test. Accordingly to my sources
would have been dropped anyway. They went with a more experienced midfielder in Holland. I think we don't play VFL next week so the rest will be good for him.

Egan in the forward line is not such a silly idea. In 2006 he was good for 2 goals a game over the second half of the year. He can play as the leading forward out of the goal square...my only query is over his forward line pressure?

I have a feeling that there will be a debut for this ANZAC day match. Malthouse usually likes to drop someone in the deep end on the big stage. I would say Wellingham should come in but I wouldn't be totally suprised if Macarthy came in after only one game for the VFL.

In Burns

Out Holland

No need for drastic changes let the same side rectify last week. Give Reid another chance - he will come good with experience!
