Hey Egg, you Dogs fans crack me up. You make a prelim or two and all of a sudden you're experts. Don't worry too much about whether Hawthorn is in the shit or not, make the most of your time near the top 'cos it's the closest you've been in living memory.

You give him shit for making the most of his time near the top and then...

Tell him to make the most of his time near the top. :rolleyes:

At least 7 Hawks would be named before you come to a Bomber.

Franklin
Hodge
Rioli
Mitchell
Sewell
Burgoyne
Roughead

You would be an idiot not to realise that Hawthorn has a very strong first 10 or so players but they lack the required depth to make the most of this talent.

They can't perform without the majority these players and as a team they know it. They are more than happy to play half fit players than to trust there depth to allow the stars to get fit and firing. If you look at the 2 teams you will see that past the top few the Hawthorn list is pretty thin.

1. Franklin
2. Hodge
3. Sewell
4. Roughead
5. Mitchell
6. Watson
7. Rioli
8. Ryder
9. Burgoyne
10. Bateman
11. Winderlich
12. Stanton
13. Hille
14. Fletcher
14. McVeigh
15. Pears
16. Prismall
17. Lewis
18.Welsh
19. Dempsey

20. Monfries
21. Young
22. Gibson
23. A Davey
24. Reimers
25. Hurley
26. Brown27. Ellis

From my calculation that gives us 14 of the 27 best players. Hardly the huge gap the Hawk sheep would have us believe.

That's fine, you're really in the shit then aren't you???? Because the top few teams of 09 all have quite a few players better than Cyril. If he is your best player don't expect to be a contender next year
Yeah, if he's our best player we'll just have to hope our depth players in Franklin, Roughead, Mitchell, Hodge and Sewell can pick up the slack, eh? :rolleyes:

cyril = jeff farmer
roughead = aaron james
mitchell = rowan jones
sewell = fraser browne
hodge = jason cloke

they are all no good and will show it this year

Lol, cos I go for the Dogs I'm not allowed to have an opinion. Lovely work, makes fine sense :thumbsu: What an embarrassingly dumb thing for you to say

You're basically supporting my point. You do have all these great players, and yet Cyril is your best :confused: Its ridiculous. Its an insult to guys like Franklin, Hodge and Mitchell that people are pushing up Cyril as your best player. If these guys are all worse than Cyril you are in the shit, because Cyril is no champion.

9 kicks and a goal a game and he's some sort of messiah?? Yeah, he's dangerous, but he doesn't get the ball enough, or kick enough goals to be classed as an elite player right now

All that has been proven here is that having an ostensibly better top 5 than Essendon:

1) Doesn't guarantee you the opportunity to defend your premiership
2) Doesn't guarantee that you will beat Essendon, even when they're all playing
3) Counts for nothing when you have no depth

Win for us, IMO.

You're half right.

If you base your assertion (that hawks plays half fit players rather than youngsters) on the amount of games that senior players played injured in 2009, then you're missing the fact that the injury crisis went deep through the entire list. At times the selectors could not name 22 un-injured players in 2009.

If you look at the 2 teams you will see that past the top few the Hawthorn list is pretty thin.

You are quite right in this respect. The gap between player 8 and player 16 is massive. Fortunately, the gap is one of age and experience rather than talent and potential. Like Essendon, Hawthorn has a very young squad which will get much better before it gets worse.

Can't say that I agree with these:
1. Franklin
2. Hodge
3. Sewell
4. Roughead
5. Mitchell
6. Watson
7. Rioli
8. Ryder
9. Burgoyne
10. Bateman
11. Winderlich
12. Stanton
13. Hille
14. Fletcher

26. Hurley
27. Brown
28. Ellis

You counted #14 twice so, pretending that your list is accurate, that gives you 15 of the best 28. Again, pretending that your list is accurate, I wonder what an age comparison would turn up.

For the record, you've under-rated Rioli by a fair margin and you've completely forgotten Birchall, Croad, & Osborne.

You definitely make some good points. You do have some players coming up that would hopefully cover the cracks on the list. This is pretty crucial as you need to be a pretty well oiled team to be able to really have a crack at winning the flag. Just look at St. Kilda this year they missed out on a premiership only because they had no back-up plan for a half fit gun and they had a dud at half back.

Even look at your own premiership. The win was not dominated by your stars but it was the contrtibution of the second tier that made the difference. Look at the front half: Franklin and Roughead were not able to get on top but you were still able to kick a winning score as you had effective options in Dew and Williams. You simply need a Plan B and C to get anywhere and in just over a year and a bit it seems you have lost alot of your options recently.

Personally I think each team needs to have a Plan A,B and C for most of the positions to be able to stand out from the pack.

- Plan A is all your guns in their ideal positions
- Plan B is to replace a gun with a similar player
- Plan C is to fill a hole with a player from another position

Too often Plan B or C were not there and you played with a comprimised Plan A.

Just in the regards to the list I did miss the likes of Birchall and Osborne but the list was intended as more a representation of the list rather than a defininate list and of course I am going to pretend that their is some accuracy in my list as otherwise there is no point writing it.

No worries Jono B :thumbsu:

Given the other Bay 13 threads I've been reading, we're probably being far too rationale for this board anyway.

Enjoy the summer. We'll be at war again soon enough. :footy:
