Holy shit Trump just confirmed tariffs against Canada and Mexico. What an idiot

Wow, that's crazy.

Interesting only 10% for China due to their fentanyl production causing a huge world wide drug/death issue... but less than 25% for neighbours for immigration issues.

Now going to be tit for tat & watch inflation take off.

This is in article that discusses the Canada & US exports/imports

Clearly Canada is more reliant on US than other way around... but will impact on US significantly too.

What will be interesting is will either country look to source imports from alternative countries.

Given inflationary impact, could send both countries into a recession.

These are the products which will now cost 25% more for Americans, unless sources from another country...

Mexico is the USA's largest trading partner... with China not too far behind.

USA exports support 1.1M jobs, so a tariff war you would expect would impact on a significant number of these... & probable recession.

Would be interested to hear from the Trumpites whether they are happy with increased in inflation, massive job losses & possible recession as Donald flexes his muscle...

So are the Trump worshippers happy with increase in inflation, loss of jobs & possible recession to prove a point on immigration?

So riddle us this...does China share a border with the states AND are millions of illegal aliens flooding across China's border directly into the states...ya know, stopping illegal aliens being THE reason trump flagged high tarrifs on Mexico and Canada.

Jesus you are completely brainwashed
Just sending the message that immigration is a bigger issue than drugs.

About 75K Americans die to due fentanyl per year & it's growing massively.

Its a good thing rhat this is tacked, though will imposing tariffs addres the issue?

By definition, bringing in a DEI policy is designed to consider aspects unrelated to performance/capability expectations in favour of an applicants physical/mental aspects. It’s designed to weaken the outcome of the workforce in favour of providing some form of intangible benefit.
Makes sense to me. If good enough and you can perform the job to as well as the next applicant, they can get hired.

"People should not be hired based on their disabilities, based on their skin color, their gender, their race. None of that matters. What matters to this president and this administration is how well you can do your job."

Will be interesting to see the impact of the 25% tariffs on the US neighbours. Going to lead to increase im inflation, huge job losses & possibly recession for countries involved. USA exports account for 1.1M jobs, so many of these likely will be lost. Will each country look to source some imports from other countries.

Mexico is USA's biggest trading partner... just ahead of China.

Genuine question, before you posted that tweet from a well known transphob, did you consider double checking that claim? It was so obviously not correct to me, that it drove me to find out more.

You seem relatively normal outside your trans fixation, I assume you don't buy a house based on a tweet.
You lost me at "transphobe", it's a meaningless slur.

But sure, maybe there are other valid sources and maybe Malcolm isn't 100% right on this one.

And I am normal - that's why I don't think men can be women :)

Here in Australia? or in the USA?

I would have thought nobody here should worry or care enough if Trump's tariffs affect the USA in this way. You get what you deserve - just ask Ken Hinks.

If it's detrimental to Australia, any clear-thinking Australian should be annoyed. If/when that happens I'll add it to my list of excellent reasons why people should realise Trump is a campaigner ****wit. :)

Will impact on USA, Canada, Mexico & China mostly.

May actually work in Australia's favour as some of these counties make look to source imports from us instead as now cheaper. Eg. Livestock, steel, etc.

Going to be an interesting watch of the economic impact.

That would make the people in the other thread cucks as they'd be cheering on someone ****ing over their own country.

Would have thought rather than diversity being an issue as raised by Trump, the question needs to be asked why the supervisor allowed 1 air traffic controller to leave early, so the remaining 1 did the job of 2...

More helpful to diagnose the cause(s) of thr incident rather than speculate attacking blame to irrelevant issues.

Apparently also very windy conditions, which i gather may have impacted on the helicopter flight path.

In the report, the Committee states, “A close examination of the evidence makes clear that even before taking office, the incoming Biden-Harris administration had its sights set on dismantling a secure border and flooding the country with inadmissible aliens. This evidence is readily apparent in the actions of the Biden transition team, the Biden-Harris administration’s rapid elimination of effective border-security policies with no alternatives in place, and its utter refusal to enforce longstanding U.S. immigration laws.”

A load of rot.

The hope is that by clamping down on the border and now going after the cartels which are newly designated as terrorist organisations, they can halt the flow of that deadly deadly drug into the country. Its so badly needed.

I suspect this is to ramp up pressure for Canada and Mexico to play ball and enforce border controls to take the pressure off the US at these borders. As yet, neither country had gone anywhere near far enough and he had given warning of what was to come. Lets hope those nations see sense and stop permitting illegal entries to the US and the tarrifs can be stopped

Inflation seems to be moving down now quicker than the US, which seems to be stickier and they want to see the impact of tariffs in the USA.
Haven't the USA cut their interest rates compared to Australia that has held them largely the same? Looks like Australia is about to start cuts in the next year.

Canada had already committed a huge amount of extra money - $1.2B - to border controls, yet Trump is going ahead any way!
