International rules players pulled up after drunken night out

is this more than enough reason to take the international rules series out the back and put a bullet in it?

it's done, aussie rules or any off shoot of it is not suddenly going to be an international sensation.... ever!

it's australia's game, as the AFL puts it, so keep it that way ffs

btw... the game happened at the weekend, i still have no clue who won, by how much, nor do i care

I posted something similar to this on another thread,
but a really simple way to increase the relevance of the Series as well as force players to take the tour seriously would be to scrap the International Rules series, but continue the annual Australia vs. Ireland contest, splitting the two test series between one Australian football game and one Gaelic football game.

Australia have become familiar enough with the round-ball that they can simply adapt to Gaelic footy, while there are enough Irishmen in the AFL for Ireland to be competitive at Aussie rules, in addition to the plethora of talented Gaelic footballers who could adapt to the Australian game.
It's also a much better advertisement for both of the sports in each country. Imagine Ireland's best Gaelic footballers playing Aussie rules, and vice versa with Australian footballers playing Gaelic footy. Interest in BOTH sports would increase in BOTH countries, which in turn could lead to more media exposure (TV, newspaper coverage) and increased participation rates in both Australia and Ireland for Gaelic and Australian footy respectively.
Also, if the players know that they are the representatives of their code, they are going to want to put on a great display so that it is the best advertisement of the sport to a foreign market. International rules is not a true representation of Aussie rules and the players know this, that's why situations like this happen. But if it was changed so that the players actually were representing the Australian football in a game of Australian football, then the tour would be approached much more seriously.

Not surprised at all. Bunch of guys going to Ireland to play footy, and when the night comes they want to let loose a bit, no problem with it, just shouldn't get out of control.

Nothing wrong with having a few and getting back to the hotel at 1, but getting shitfaced and getting back at 4-5, that's not on, especially when representing australia.

I doubt that would be accepted in any other sport where the players are representing Australia, they have two games in seven days and they are in between games 1 and 2.

Just letting off some steam and having a bit of fun in the offseason is fine. Just get the coat of arms off the jersey, if that's what it's going to be about.

Who cares , they played loud music. Surprised they havnt been hanged for brings the game into disrepute.

What would happen if the afl players had a night out like nfl and nba players do mid season, drinking 1000 dollar champagne and throwing money at strippers. People really need to grow up

Meh... all their mates are currently on holidays. They're in another country and expected to train and perform at an elite level... the difference between this tour and previous is that there's a limited number of Indigenous talent, and there would have been a fair deal of family and club pressure to 'represent' their culture. They'll train and play hard, but don't expect them to give three ****s more than anyone else in Australia gives.

Bad way for the comp to end. Next year I say field the All-Australian squad; smash the absolute shit out of Ireland and then never play them again. Classy.

This would close the mouths of all the Irish once and for all and just expose this series as the joke it is. I say do it. We will have bragging rights forever more and that will be that.

Typical, no-one cares about the vase. You are all savages. I await the homewares round next season.

Won't somebody think of the vases?

They are supposed to be there working hard, and playing to their best...How can they do they if they are out boozing...Shows how much they care about the tour, and how much they appreciate the opportunity..

Love some of the faux outrage in this thread.

Also, for the record, I am certain that Eddie Betts, the always Adelaide player was the ringleader. Where is the Crows' culture at?
