I've been considering getting myself a new mp3 player lately and want to know just how good these iPods are. The Touch model has me interested but I'd like to get some feedback from someone who owns one or has owned one previously.

They're more on the expensive side of things so if I can still watch quality video on the Nano then I'd probably just save myself some money. Does the Touch do anything amazing that makes it better than the others or is it just another fancy Apple gimmick?

Please tell me all that you can so I can make a decision on which way I'll go. If you want to tell me of any other mp3 that isn't Apple, feel free!

The iPod touch is awesome, I've got the 2nd gen. Excellent for watching movies and looking at photos. You've also got the ability to get on the net with and dowload songs and apps directly to your iPod. No doubt it is worth the extra money.

PS: I'm posting using my iPod now:p

i have an iphone which is a touch with phone functions

pros
-big screen (huge really)
-touch controls really very easy and intuitive
-sounds ok
-can watch stuff in widescreen
-internet browser surprisingly usable
-can get e-mail to your phone (really easy to get gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc)
-games

cons
-big
-screen needs cleaning

As has been said, if you have an open wireless connection, you're on the net.

Its pretty handy. Definately worth it

Define an open wireless connection (Forgive my stupidity lol) I get what you mean but I'm pretty sure I don't have an open connection right now, so how would I change that?

It connects over Wi-Fi mate, like your W-LAN home network

Your home one is easy, if that's encrypted, it's not hard to open up for the ipod.

What i really meant by open wireless connection, is when you're out and about, its surprising how many open, unencrypted wireless networks you'll find.

If you're in range of any of those, free net;)

I had a similar problem when deciding over a quite expensive touch or a 120gig Pod classic. Went with the touch and it's awesome, quick as ever, easy to use. Even though the 8gig touch is about the same price as the 120 gig classic, unless you’ve got a sh*tload of CD’s, or plan to watch whole movies on it, the 8 gig touch should be enough mate. Defently worth paying the extra over the Nano or other mp3 players.

I've had mine since it first came out, October last year. Easily the best iPod and mp3 player available. Because I have the 1st Gen, I can still jailbreak mine and put extra apps on there 'illegally'.

If you get one, make sure to buy the 12.95 upgrade, even for that price its well worth it

if you could turn up with a laptop, you can turn up with an ipod and get the same connection.

so if you can access the hotspot, you can surf the net

Just Google it. Simplest way.

Basically you download a program that does it all for you, providing you have a 1st Gen iPod. They updated the firmware on 2nd Gen so you can't jailbreak

Search "jailbreak 2nd gen ipod touch" in youtube and they have videos that walk you thru it.

Pretty much everything that needs to be said has been. Definatley if you watch movies on your ipod get a 16 or 32gb. Wi-fi makes the ipod even more awesome, you won't need to hook it up to a computer very much if not at all.
I have a 8gb and it can hold 270 songs, 7x40min episodes and about 15 games.
Get one, if you don't, you'll regret it. :thumbsu:

Also mate, try and find the cheapest price out on the net, if it's cheaper than JB, take it to them as they'll match it, although JB has pretty good prices anyway.

As long as I can use it in WiFi areas at airports and in the city, I'm fine. Any other connections I happen to pick up are a bonus.
