Same deal as here. If there's an open connection away you go. I bought my ipod in the US and it works fine here and over there.
Just one thing on jailbreaking, it voids your warranty. Say if you break your ipod and send it to apple for them to fix it, they won't.

If you break it and are able to restore it, it wipes the iPod completely, making it impossible to tell if it was ever jailbroken

It connects over Wi-Fi mate, like your W-LAN home network

Your home one is easy, if that's encrypted, it's not hard to open up for the ipod.

What i really meant by open wireless connection, is when you're out and about, its surprising how many open, unencrypted wireless networks you'll find.

If you're in range of any of those, free net
;)

You're in my area, any good location tips? Lol.

Any of the cafe's (Starbucks, Zarrafas(sp?)) have free Wi-fi that's why there is always lots of people in there working on their laptops.

Well thanks guys.

Pretty much just decided my christmas pressie. :D

Was either that or the cheaper nano, but by the way you guys have been decribing it, i think i'll go the touch.

Yeh I got one as soon as they came out last year. I'm still on 1.1.1 too. I got all NES, Gameboy Advance, PS1 and all that on there and dont really wanna lose it. Is the free stuff in the App store any good and how much is there?

There are tonnes and tonnes of free apps and they're actually pretty good. But the games are mainly to kill time.

Cube runner - like this but better quality
Luxtouch - similar to age of the empires
ibowl - bowling, just like on a wii
Taptap Revenge - like guitar hero

Are some of the better free apps. Although not many free games that can top the emulators. But the paid apps are worth it. :thumbsu:

You can't jailbreak 2nd Gen yet .. the iPhone Dev Team have been trying hardware based jailbreaks, which I'd probably be 90% against doing. Warranty will be void, and hardware related is always a greater risk than running a program.

I'm getting it for my birthday..

Oh, get it at Harvey Norman and you can usually haggle prices and/or get them to chuck in extras with the item. They work on commission, so anything to get a sale done..

i have the version one ipod touch from last year and was wondering if you had to get the $20 thing to be able to download the free apps or if i could just download them now.
thankss :thumbsu:

I have the 80gig Ipod but want one of these for that Poker game, it's sick. Some bloke on the plane to Vietnam was playing it, let me play when he was sleeping.

What would be the approx. price range for a used 16gb Touch now? Getting an iPhone for Christmas and obviously have no need for the Touch anymore. It's a year old in good nick with a few scratches on the back. Probably sell it for around $300, seeing as brand new they are $420

A refurbished 1st gen 16GB is roughly the same price as the current 2nd gen 8GB Touch. So I'd say about $320.

Bought my 8GB Touch yesterday and boy am I happy.

This is my thread, you weren't supposed to go and buy one before me.

:(

Seriously though I'm glad they're so popular, because I usually sit on the fence for a while when it comes to expensive purchases.

I was the same. Just make sure you shop around and get the best price you can.. I got free stuff with mine from HN because other places had specials on and they usually match the value others offer.

I need a new phone and a new ipod. Would it be dumb to get a touch and a new phone instead of just going with an iphone? Cheers.

if you are going to get both a phone and a touch just get an iphone

im the same, but iphones seem to be too expensive.
also, whats the word on going running etc with an itouch as compared to a classic?

Make sure you buy a case (preferably silicone) for your iPod Touch if you are going to run with it. Whenever I'm holding my Touch without a case I always feel like I'm going to drop it. :p

A classic is probably easier to run with since it grips better in the hand.
