But you would take a long hard think about it if WCE offered us their 1st round pick for him. Imagine 2 picks inside the top 10 in the last uncomprised draft.

Forget about comparing him to Hurley. Should be comparing him to Tayte Pears who we were interested in and went around the same pick, i think. Tayte Pears has shown alot more improvement and composure than Rance has. Will be an excellent fullback/Centre Half Back for Essendon in the next ten years. Hopefully Rance will be as good or we have missed out on another excellent key position player.

This thread is hilarious! his played how many games? jesus nowonder other teams sit back and laugh at our supporters, one of the few very bright lights on our list and u guys are sinking the boots in , almost laughable

With the way our 'fans' expect instant results, I'm expecting to read the first Hardwick is a shit coach thread somewhere around the first intra club game when the possibles beat the probables by 10 goals.

My apologies Einstein, I left out the bit where you said: "the guy has shit skills and no awareness".

Do you seriously expect to try and turn this fine example of throwing shit at a 15 gamer 19 y.o, into a positive?

Still can't read. I said he won't make it at Richmond.

What position is he going to play? KP Defender? No, he plays HBF and in the middle FFS, if we wanted him to be KPD, Silvester wouldn't be getting games ahead of him.

We can't compare Rance to Pears/Hurley, Rance plays HBF/midfield

He should be OK if endevour and courage count. Definitely has issues with an automatic instinct to play on with handball though. I just watched the vid on him and it was obvious even then. Play on at all costs and almost everytime with handball. It can be a useful trait but he needs to be more aware in AFL to get away with that. On Friday night got a few players hammered after hospital handballs.

he only played in the hbf because we were coached by clueless twats this year. Hopefully hardwick wont continue to play him out of position and put him back to kpd where he played so well before he came to richmond and typically had his development stunted by wallace and co

My whole point is that we shouldn't have drafted Rance, with Moore, McGuane and Thursfield all way ahead of him. When we finally played Rance, we played him out of position, even when one of the 3 were injured, we brought in Silvester.

three under sized defenders which rance is not. Much better prospect for centre half back then those three. Mcguane and thursfield rotate between full back and third defender and moore is a one year wonder who should be traded while he is worth something.

He's in that funny position where he could be good and could end up yet another dud. Would definitely have trade currency, especially to the WA clubs who will have watched him through his juniors days.

If the Weagles or Dockers genuinely wanted to do a fair trade we would be silly not to look at it.

Pears gets absolutely dominated every couple of games, I wouldn't be surprised if he has conceded more goals than any other defender. I'd say both are about the same level, Pears a better spoiler, Rance has better athleticism, and both are wildly inconsistent atm.

I'm absolutely incredulous at this thread. He is a future FB and that's where he should be played. He's 19 for god's sake, what were you expecting from a 19yo KPP in his first season?

Yes, please trade him to us :D
Welcome to the Richmond board:rolleyes:
We have a fair few strugglers around these parts

Shit you blokes are quick to judge.

I'd hate to see the threads on Jack Watts if he was playing for Richmond.

Apperantly you have to play like Judd in your first year or you get delisted at Richmond.

I've seen Alex play about 30 games now. I've seen his good games and not so good games,

Pros; athletic, good work eithic, courageous, willing runner offensively

Cons : not a big mark taker, loses his man/concentration often, not good in one on one contests with Key forwards; decision making poor and one dimensional (ie the rocket handball)' ordinary kick for accuracy although technique basically sound.

In summary

(1) has not shown he can play as a key tall as he plays more like an oversized half back

(2) does not demonstrate a defender's demeanor or smarts and is quite naive in his approach to the task;

(3) while he presents well offensively he just butchers the ball or makes poor decisions too often

Alex will get another year and hopefully he will learn some more - but he is coming off a low base. In terms of trade value I think he was worth more last year than this year and he will be worth less next year than this year.

If he is teachable he may improve enough to play somewhere although I dont know where - maybe forward. But at pick 18 I am assuming you actually have some footy smarts or skills to work with before you get drafted.

Good luck to him but as i said above I would take a third rounder for him. be agood trade to West Coast with his father's history there.

I've seen the guy as well. The most important point you have made is that he has a good work ethic. Combine that with his courage and he will become a fantastic player with the correct guidance (hopefully with Hardwick and co.) Anybody can become good if they are willing to work hard enough and are shown the right ways. I carefully have followed Tate Pears since the Bombers drafted him. Last year he looked WORSE than Rance. This year he has worked hard and has been given the right advice and has played in a cohesive backline unit. He has passed Rance by a long way. So there is no reason why Rance cannot make the same improvement (although having a Dustin Fletcher play along side you must help your confidence).

We'd be crazy to trade him for a third rounder. Who is to say that he wont be an absolute dud anyway. Rance has a lot of upside. Just give the kid a chance.

agreed. caught him at a game for coburg late in the year and he demolished russell robertson, granted robbo was probably sulking a bit about being in the VFL, but rance absolutely killed him.

considering how many times robbo hurt us over the years i'd be thrilled if rance could be the answer to that kind of full foward. he's only going to get better with a bit of bulk and once he learns to calm down a bit.

likewise i think thursfield is starting to get the hang of the smaller forwards.

He does show plenty of upside he started of this season well getting at least 18 disposals in his first 5 or so matches.
I think 4 tall defenders isn't working for us, I think we should try and send Moore off to the Hawks for a 2nd round pick or for Thorpe, and keep giving this kid games.
If you look back at the 2007 draft he has shown a lot more than
Myers and Henderson both taken higher than him.
The only ones that have shown more have been Pears and Taylor (who is 3 years older)
Sure his skills need some work but just give him some time.

Hutchy just said Hawthorn are after Alex. Their picks are 9 + 25.

As Rance's value lies somewhere in between, maybe we could get 25 + someone for him?

I know Rance isn't popular with many over here, but I reckon in AFL circles teams would be willing to give up something better than Pick 25 for him.

How about we get 9 for Rance and someone else.

That would be a far better outcome for us. :thumbsu:

That said, I want to keep Rance.
