This is not meant to be a ash hansen Bashing thread just for serious input. I thought back to when he played his best football which was 2006-2007 in front of a good midfield. My problem is that even then he took a lot of marks outside of 50 leading up and doesnt take contested marks overhead. If he is a permanent forward should he not be marking and taking shots at goal like rewoilt. The other thing i have noticed is he drops his head while trying to mark overhead and this is why he is dropping so many marks. Is he a future prospect or is he just a bit of a front runner who needs to be in a good team.

Although I agree, Mitch is coming back from a knee reconstruction and Kennedy has been a bit injury prone so far. Never a bad thing to have some KPP depth, especially up forward.
He was our lucky charm, our talisman but now he's sliding to being just an insurance policy and depth player.
Next year I see Hunter playing FF, he is the only player who has consistantly taken strong overhead pack marks in our forward half. We know his defensive game is good and if he can improve his kicking accuracy and plays an entire season forward he'll get close to 50 goals IMO.
Kennedy and Mitch Brown should be delevoped further next year, Kennedy at CHF and Brown rotating off the bench through FF, CHF or a pocket giving Kennedy a break.
Really want to see Waters play HFF again, I really think he adds something defensively through HF and the midfield.
It will be very interesting where we end up playing Lynch and Staker, both showed a bit playing through the midfield. How these two fit in the onfield balance at the same time is a tough one.

Kennedy's body is possbily a classic case of injury prone. Ash hansen is expected to miss games through injury, if he got through a whole season people would be scratching their heads.

I dont know if I like the idea of hunter, McKinley and Lecca all in the forward line, seems to short for the long bomb in (of which there are plenty) unless you have Hansen and Kennedy in the forward line as well.

In a word, no.
Can't take an overhead/contested mark, therefore can't hold down a consistently competetive forward role.
Could maybe be used on a wing as a marking target coming out of defence with Kennedy and Brown up forward (LeCras and McKinley small/mid sized forwards) but needs to do a massive ammount of fitness work over the summer to be good at it.
This leaves Hunter free to play wherever he wants, I'd love to see him on the other wing myself.
Looking at what Richmond did with Matthew Richardson this year, I'd love to see Hunter play every game on the wing, he's the main man when he's fit so I'd like to give him the freedom do whathe likes/feels we need. (That's a little off topic, sorry.)

A fit Hunter is the long bomb marking option / create a contest / take a mark or cause a spill foe Wirra, Le cras or McKinely to crumb.
McKinely also isn't bad with the bomb as long as he has himself between the drop zone and his defender. Have you noticed he's not a big marking forward (screamer) but is very very good at holding his ground and nudging the defender under the ball or away from the contest with his hip and then lunging to take a good grab.
All three are good leading forwards, Kennedy is the work horse who also can crash a pack and take a mark. Wirra still has a bit of majic left in him and Waters provides a mobile defensive hard ball getting HFFer.

Well Roo plays a lot up the ground as well.
But I think for Hansen to be successful he needs to take most of his marks on the wing as he is not the best contested mark. There might still be space for him with Kennedy + Brown playing but I doubt it.
Probably resigned him as a back up player maybe? Either way he's been alright for us but I think the youth need to start taking over.
Hunter on a wing was something I thought could work as well ealier in the year but wasn't convinced he has the tank for it. Problem now for this to happen is Staker and Lynch have shown they both have something to offer in the middle as well. I'd suggest Staker and Lynch would have bigger tanks, both are younger and both are healthier (have not had as many injuries). We will struggle to play two of these guys as mids and with Hunter coming back from shoulder and knee surgery I'd expect him to start forward in 2009 until his fitness and confidence return.
Always considered Hunter as a better HBF not a CHB and he himself has said he hoped to finish his career playing forward again.
yea same maybe next year when we get kennedy and brown back hansen could play a rotating role with seaby, in forward pocket.

With Hansen, Kennedy, Bmac, a fit M Brown and bigger Notte I would think Hunters oportunities up forward will be limited.

You dont understand. If you are an Eagles fan there has to be at least one player who is derided and ridiculed by the "supporters". If he happens to be Victorian even better (Gehrig) however they are also happy to choose someone closer to home if there is no outside option (Rojo).
When he is traded or delisted or is forced out one way or another, he will be talked about fondly (he really wasn't that bad, hard worker, helped us win a premiership etc). Until then though, it will be relentless.
Then they will chose the next scape goat.
im undecided on our big ranga...he can play some great footy at times, but can play some really bad footy as well.

Well he needs to stay injury free. I dont know where else his income will come from. He certainly doesnt know how to pick a winner at the races
