Is Jamie Cripps the most under rated Eagle ever?

Ive always thought he has been overrated. He was shit for the first 6 years, and then was a handyish player who didn't really rebound all that much or lockdown all that well either.
With all those players named- Crippa has probably had the longevity & consistency that has never been recognised.

I don’t think any Eagle of the current group is under rated, I think many are very much over rated. Cripps has been a good contributor, but he has way too many bad days to be considered under rated.
I think that's the thing- even on our bad days where JK has 1 goal, Darling 1 mark, Petrucelle 2 disposals etc , Cripps would still have his 10 and a few tackles and do something
He plays a position where a bad day for the team inevitably leads to a howler for the player. It's not like he's a full time midfielder who can get 25-35 touches in a thrashing.
Smaller forward/HFF rotation is a fickle spot to be. Especially the WCE HFF of death.
We haven't seen him for 2 months now - so we can judge what impact his absence has. I feel we've got other guys in there that are putting on OK pressure (eg West) but Cripps is a level above with goal scoring conversion. He's probably better with his inside 50s too.

Cripps is a strong tackler as well, renowned for 2nd and 3rd efforts. His efforts are always of high exertion as well, always leads us for sprints and repeat sprints when he's playing. I think he does a lot of work to cover for others.
Not creative like Ryan for example whose inside 50s are magic but he can be damaging on the quick rebound. Also doesn't mind actually having a shot off one step which you need sometimes.
Brad Sheppard was not overrated either for whoever said that. We haven't had an aerialist like him since he left, he was a defensive machine, could play small lockdown which we struggle with. He's the type of player you'd put on Toby Greene, Luke Bruest, Robbie Gray etc and he'd just shut them down.

Bumping this thread to toast Crippa ahead of game 250.
An absolute steal of a trade: Cripps and 45 in for 40 and 43 out.
With respect to Brodie Murdoch and Josh Saunders, I reckon we probably won that trade.

Been really fumbly recently but even then has been able to contribute. Hoping the youth can really develop over the coming years and can push him out of the side but I think Crippa is a genuine chance at pushing on to 300.
Actually having a decent season but has been let down of late. Disposls and marks have been the best since the late 2010’s but his lack of polish in front of goal has really let him down. Otherwise it would be a prime Cripps season

If you're a small forward you have to have a decent highlight package to be noticed/remembered. Flukey snaps from the boundary, shake and bake dribblers etc. The likes of Daicos, Betts, Papley deliver in that department. I do think Cripps has some of that but just not as much. As others have said lacks consistency. I think in general Eagles players are just less under the microscope in Melbourne anyway.
Cripps ain’t a player like that. He’s a role player thats been ultra consistent throughout the years. While not one of the greatest forwards in the game he’s been able to play that HFF role (which many argue is the hardest position to play) and be impactful to the side. While he won’t get superstar status, I do agree he’s get a lot more fanfare had he played in Melbourne

That's true, he is pretty overlooked in general. Ryan and Rioli did more of the fancy stuff that got noticed.

The first things that stand out for me (at his best and with experience) is the conversion and his courage to calmly execute cleanly even if it means copping damage in the process. So many games where he stood up and potted a difficult set shot JJK style, or goes for a mark or readies a purposeful kick which requires absorbing contact. Tough footballer who can do timing, selfless fundamentals and some magical things.
