I can't believe Robert Walls gets mentioned in the same breath as Ayres. Walls is highly insightful and a meticulous student and analyst of the game. I accept that some may find him a little boring, but he's very good at his job and worthy of respect. Ayres by contrast, adds absolutely nothing! I've never heard him say anything even remotely insightful about footy! :D

He just keeps talking in that boring tone all the way thru his comments. In fact he is worse than the Walls', the Blight's, the Silvangi's, the Lyon's, the Bereton's. He should lift the tempo in his voice and take it one word at a time!

As a Hawthorn champion I have a soft spot for him and will put up a shaky start to his media career. He is not that bad..... stephen silvagni is probably the worst.

Yes he's woeful and I find it quite amazing that the same organisation who would've televised his dreary press conferences as a coach could have hired him as a commentator.

But surely that second poll option should be reserved only for Stephen Silvagni.

apparently, by the vote, it is lucky i did put it in as it is the over whelming winner with nigh on 60% of the vote.

Did anyone see Gary Ayres' performance during the Brisbane v Bulldogs match tonight? My God, it was truly shocking!

Two absolute gems from Ayres -

1.) In the last quarter, the Bulldogs had about a 4 goal lead and then Brisbane kicked about three in a row to get within four points of the Dogs. Ayres says (referring to the Lions) "they're a chance from here". There was still about 15 minutes left in the game.

2.) Then a few minutes later, Nathan Eagleton (a natural left footer) kicked a brilliant goal for the Dogs with his wrong foot. Quarters was talking about what a good goal it was and Ayres chips in with "Yes, Nathan Eagleton isn't really noted as being a right foot kicker".

Ayres is a major embarrassment. How long is Foxtel going to persist with him I wonder.

i'm tipping it has something to do with their budget or rather lack of it.

as acker said, pay peanuts, end up with...ayres :D
LOL It isn't just him forever stating the bleeding obvious or making comments which are just plain dumb, it's also Ayres' utterly droll manner. There's no charisma, no authority, no confidence in what he says. He's about the worst I've heard.

Maybe only Mick McGuane was worse that year he worked for Seven before they sacked him.

Ironic that you should mention Aker, Ayres was pronouncing Akermanis' name incorrectly also!
