Play Nice Is Gil really this much of a fool? Jobe's Brownlow and the commission's "hard" decision.

The reason it won't be re-awarded is because of the betting/money aspect of the Brownlow medal...it's too complicated and who could really be bothered..

**** betting. It's getting too ingrained in the sport.
Betting companies should not even come into any discussion on this.

WADA directs the officiating body, who does the stripping ie IOC in jarred talents case,

The players appealed , the original sanctions stand, the OFFAL must do it in the interests of clean sport and other clean athletes. These are Gilligan sown words
Hence Gil is batting for, effectively, the prosecution. In his words.
He is not making up part of the AFL Commission in this case.

Obviously the AFL has some choice in the matter, otherwise the meeting wouldn't be going ahead. That's all I am saying.

There will be a marketing campaign to try to massage the masses into accepting that he keeps it, crooked ASADA evil WADA Foreign courts not understanding Aussie culture

100% correct. This delayed decision and Jobe being given the opportunity to plead his case is nonsense. He needs to be 'stripped' of the medal.

And Gil needs to stand down. His current position is now untenable.

As I have said elsewhere it is this statement here that means the AFL has no other choice but for Jobe TO RETAIN HIS MEDAL. Because if the penalty is applied, then the lawyers would have a field day.

"The AFL will not make any further punishment against Essendon." The AFL has made a rod for it's own back rightly or wrongly.

Then the semantics kick in. Just the club..or the club and anyone who works for it. There's an interesting legal argument.

Nah he can't keep it. He cheated. It's simple.

If its true the afl asked Mitchell and Cotchin for a submission-seriously stupid and inappropriate of Gil. But other than that.
Best season for years, so many good games. Great finals series.(possibly as a consequence of bye round) Women's League-great. Buying Etihad-brilliant. Weaker, local clubs being supported. Memberships up. MRP functioning better. Essendon consequences handed down and served. Doing better than last couple of AFL heads.
So what exactly are you sooking it up about Flea?

It will be hard for them emotionally because Jobe Watson is basically a good guy who was railroaded by his club.

But hes a drug cheat as confirmed by the highest authority in the world and the decision is a no brainer.

The Brownlow has to be awarded to the Fairest and Best, Mitchell and Cotchin. No problems with the board reviewing it at their next meeting but the decision has to be made at that meeting. If they declare no winner that would also be a disgrace. Mitchell and Cotchin should not be punished for playing by the rules.

Great to hear Mitchell refused to join the meeting to make a submission. He should have no part in it, the AFL should make the call. I assume Cotchin will do the same.

Sure we keep on hearing this but actions speak louder than words

There is zero reason for him to keep his Brownlow. Zero.

I don't understand why it even needs consideration. He is a convicted drug cheat. WADA found the players implicit in the saga. He won an award while on performance enhancing drugs, how can the AFL possibly claim any integrity if they allow a convicted drug cheat keep arguably the prestigious personal award in the AFL?

The other 17 teams, both on a club level and the supporter base will burn the AFL to the ground if he is allowed to keep his Brownlow. It will be a spit in the face to everyone involved in the AFL as a credible professional sport

I think the league has become an absolute joke. They screwed up expansion. They handled the whole doping saga terribly. They're still giving certain teams advantages over other teams in terms of salary caps and drafting. Their FA system is stupid. There's no sense behind how they hand out priority picks. The AFL media is of a terrible standard and is in the pocket of the AFL. They keep fiddling with the rules and seem unable to be consistent with them from play to play, let alone for an entire season.

That's just off the top of my head. I know I'm not the only lifelong fan and club member that is one more insult from dumping the sport entirely. Jobe keeping his Brownlow would do it.

I hate sports betting with a passion. I teach kids and when i ask them how their team is going to go this weekend, they don't even know who's in their team, but they can often quote the odds and they base their opinion on those odds. They are gambling addicts in the making. It's highly disturbing.

I'm sick of hearing the ads on radio, seeing those boundary fence ads, seeing celebrities promoting sports betting, hearing Campbell Brown and Nathan Brown etc peddling their crap like there is any redeeming value in it whatsoever - they're like smarmy used car salesmen. I'd love to see it all banned. No value in it at all.

That's pretty awful

Taking the medal off Watson is not punishing the Essendon Football Club - its punishing Jobe Watson. He need a miracle to keep it.

If he wants to be semi respected for the rest of his playing days he should hand it back.
Adam Goodes's experience will seem like a fond farewell compared to the reception Jobe will get if he hangs onto the Brownlow.

That is complete bullshit spun by people who don't know what they're talking about.

Betting agencies have terms and conditions that cover this very thing. You do realise that this isn't that unique a situation in sport?

They are more likely to use Jobe losing the medal as a marketing ploy - paying out to punters where they legally aren't required.
