As admirably as Renouf has played, he was stuffed by the end of the game and having two big rucks crash into him for the foreseeable future will not benefit the team.

So as the only other option out there, is it time to give Grimley a go, just to get him to compete, and to give Renouf a breather, and to provide a contest.

As I do not see the third man up option being sustainable for the rest of the season.

Thoughts?

I saw him in the preseason and he still looked thin and raw, but can provide a contest.

Is too Raw to be playing in the Ruck at this stage but did play in the pre-season game against the Dogs so maybe he could just come in for the one game to give Renouf a hand otherwise I cen see Brent getting burnt out by rd6-7!!

Maybe in for the dogs/Pies game then back to the twos!!

Have been watching training from the balcony of my home...definitely no Sam Grimley or Luke Lowden. Both are not available due to varying injuries.

Max Bailey for mine is the better option for now - he is participating in skills training yesterday morning. IE: Rehab group.

I'm trying to be discrete here, but I think Dowler might get the nod against Bulldogs as a 2nd ruck...he was being used there in the drills with Sewell and Burgoyne instructing him.

Max Bailey will be a mile off from returning to the ruck i would have thought. He only did his ACL in round22 of last year and he is a big bloke, and coupled with the fact he will be putting more pressure on his original dodgy knee until the current one heals, i'd think the best we could hope for would be a late season return.

I hope dowler makes the most of the opportunity to be honest. Yes it might not be where he expected to play, but i would think a player would make the effort to try something new to get a run in the firsts as, at current, dowler isn't in the firsts at the moment and may have difficulty getting back in with peterson looking pretty good.

We don't expect him to be the next sandilands or cox, but we just need someone to give renouf a breather so that he isn't burnt out by rounds 6-8 as we'll then be back to one ruackman otherwise which will be skipper... As good a negatign role as roughy might do in the ruck, he is too valuable a player to be playing in that position. If for whatever reason we had to play roughy out of position, i'd rather it be negating a mooney or a hall down the backline as he has shown he can play there.

We need Roughie out of the ruck and Dowler/Lisle combo in. The both of them can rotate on a weekly basis, barring injury it will be better than the alternative. Don't play big Max until he's ready, or we run the big risk of losing him completely.

Grimley won't be played. He's an outstanding long term prospect but he's miles off. Just not ready yet. He hardly played any school footy last year (4 games I think). Lisle and Dowler will player ruck before he does.

As I have previously stated; Lowden and Grimley are not training at all. They rock up to work (around 8am) and stay in the gym to do rehab. That's what these two are doing. The club are looking long term for these two, especially Lowden.

The only other ruckman on the list out on Waverley park currently is Bailey who has had a knew reco and cannot/shouldn't play given the physicality of the position. Taylor is not there. Ditto Skipper. Its only Bailey doing running (soft running laps) and skills training.

This is how bad our ruck stocks are currently - we have no one.

So we are forced to ask Dowler to play on the ruck, hoping he can contest. The idea the coaching staff are trying to do are;

1. Dowler at Ruck/Full Forward alternating with Roughead, this helps Renouf

Or

2. Gilham in the Ruck, Shoey down back permanently, with Gibbo and Murphy. With Roughy/Franklin staying permanent.

Option 2 hasn't been discussed yet, but they have been working on it.

Option 2 is a bad idea. Gilham needs to be a backman.

Not necessarily and the Coaching staff knows it. He (gilly) has played Ruck previously, albeit Under 16s and 18's. He knows how to play it and he can do it.

Plus if we have a fitter body in there, Renouf wont tire as badly as he did this weekend. So we should get first use of the ball moreso this game against Doggies than what we did.

All I know at this point is Renouf came into work today and is still sore from his workout yesterday. He needs a chop out and better either a Gilham, Dowler or Roughead...than Grimley, Lowden or Bailey

I'm not sure here. But hasn't been played that way.

Also, given i think Jordy Lewis, Hooper and possibly Osbourne will be out, we must have to play Gary Moss, JKT and bring in Dowler.

I'm still scratching my head as to why we didnt play Moss. We shouldn't have played Hooper for mine given we had Rioli and Petersen,

Rioli was well underdone and the caching staff new it and planned for limited TOG for him, hence Hooper in for the forward presure. I agreed with the decision as i thought where we could win it against Geelong was the forward pressure we could put on their backline, especially with Milburn out. First half showed this but the lack of run in second half due to injuries and conditioning for some meant they were able to set up goals from there back half as with normal service from Geelong.

I forgot all about Moss. He'll come in next week to replace Hooper for sure.

I'm wondering where Jordan Lisle is . . . at 196cm he's a good choice for a back-up ruckman.

If Gilham rucks, who's going to be FB/CHB?? Robbing Peter to pay Paul with no other tall backs to fill the gap. Will not work against teams that have tall forwards.

ok Dowler is the go then,

we have to ruck him, or Lisle i guess,

i suppose Lisle could also play CHB as well,

does anyone know how Goose Maguire as gone, should have we got him?

as our backs did not look that good yesterdat,

but i think shoey is getting better and better

i donot think grimley will play.

lisle is the man, he played ruck against sandringham and lined up and beat michael gardiner....he also ran forward and kicked 2 goals. however, he has not played since and i believe he is injured and therefore would lack match practice.

i would like him to play still, let renouf ruck against hudson and lisle against minson and play 3rd or fourth forward

grimley did not play for box hill last week and may be injured.
