Is Ross Gibbs the Aussie Rules equivalent of Damir Dokic?

2. What the heck is Ross Gibbs thinking, allowing himself and his wife to be miked up and interviewed at this point in his son's career? As if Bryce doesn't have enough media exposure to contend with already we've got the spectacle of his father explaining why he's not tearing it up yet. If I was young Gibbs I'd be squirming in embarrassment.

Am I the only one, or does it remind others of the spectacle of Damir Dokic sitting in the stands at the tennis watching his daughter, or of the Hewitt clan following Lleyton around the world?

STFU Ross Gibbs. Politely refuse interviews on live television while your son is playing. Stay out of the limelight and give your son room to grow at his own pace.

Maybe you should rename this : Is Ross Gibbs the new Glynn Hewitt?

Moved heaven and earth to ensure his son could be selected by the Crows under the father/son rule. Failed in this. Now there are reports that he has said Bryce is no certainty to nominate for the draft this year.

Does this guy have too much influence over the career of his son?

I reckon David Cloke would be better suited to the position. He meddled in Collingwoods selection process threatening to pull his boys out of Collingwood if Jason didnt get more games.

Two points:-

1. I think we saw some glimpses of class from Bryce Gibbs tonight. For instance in the first quarter he kicked from near the centre to deep into the forward line and the ball was put beautifully to the advantage of the Carlton forward. A mark didn't eventuate but I think it did show Gibb's promise.

Sure he didn't contribute massively to the Carlton cause tonight but give him time. He'll be good.

One good kick and he shows promise?...

Jetta kicked 3 goals in his first real senior match.
Does that make him a super star already?

Just let the kid play footy..... and to Ross Gibbs...shut the hell up and watch you're son play footy...we have had enough of your "This is Your Life" moments...give it a rest son.

I dont agree, I think it's been interesting hearing from the parents of different new players. They interviewed Selwood's mum at his first game too. It's more to do with the TV station, if you want to blame anyone I reckon. Of course the parents of new players are gonna be there watching their kids first game or the Nab Cup GF. Nothing like Damir in my opinion.

Tootsie is nearly as obsessed with Ross Gibbs as much as he is with the AFC.

& all because Ross Gibbs led the charge to have the Bays aligned to the Crows instead of to the Paps which does make sense i suppose as could you imagine the uproar with lf Port Adelaide were chosen to be aligned to the Crows instead of to the Port Power ? :D

Maybe he didnt want Bryce to play for the Power ;)

Though it would have been hilarious to see the shoe on the other foot once the 200 game rule was exposed as it was for the AFC... you think Rucci or FF might have mentioned it if he was tied to Port

If you go back through the thread you'll find it's quite clear that the subject of Ross Gibbs getting Glenelg swapped from Port to the Crows for father/son purposes was simply to point out that there is no family connection between Gibbs and the AFC. Ross Gibbs never played for Adelaide despite the brouhaha created by Crows posters when it became clear he remained ineligible to be picked up by them despite Ross Gibbs' machinations.
Exactly. let the kid play footy & let his parents butt out.
Thankyou for vindicating my position. :thumbsu:

Once again - a misnomer ... Rucci was not the one that first mentioned the issue........ and it was the AFC (after the initial article) that approached the AFL.

Re: The Bryce Stuff
Hey guys, I think i have a different view on this article. Although it was a good read and i loved it, does any1 else feel that Ross has a little but too much to say. By this i mean that everytime Bryce is mentioned or does an article his father is close behind him. Although what he says is nothing negative (ala cloke of the past) i just wish that he would let bryce be. Again last week on T.V there was an interview with his family. (i didnt mind it, its just that his always got something to say) I just wish that they could take a step back and let the kid grow without having to always be there. I might get spanked here but does any1 else feel the same way or give me a different perspective..

Cheers

That was my point of view at the start of the month. The situation still has not change. Come on Ross let your boy grow up without your shadow please.

ross gibbs i dont think ever really wanted his son to play at the crows, he didnt know about the rule that his son may be able to play with crows until informed. i do know this as fact sorry toots, even though ross is a big Kangaroos fan he has made carlton his now choice of club.

Are you aware that Ross Gibbs pushed to have Glenelg moved from Port to the Crows for father/ son purposes a number of years ago in anticipation of his son being drafted?* And was quite vocal in the media about it?

(* Its no doubt necessary to add yet again that the only reason this has come up is because of the number of Crows fans who claimed they'd been robbed when it was found that, even under the new arrangements, Gibbs was ineligible to be picked up by the Crows)

"Boy, when you grow up I'm going to make sure you play for the Crows, juuust liiiike me! :thumbsu: "

"But Dad, you never played for the Crows! "

"You're going to play for those Crows even if people think I'm living my dreams through you! "

I'm sick of being pushed around by Dad, Fantasia and that whole Crows mob. I'm outta here, for my own good. And being drafted will be the perfect excuse.

Eat my shorts Fantasia. I’m Living La Vida Lygon!

“My son is surprised at the speed of the AFL. When he realizes he belongs out there he’s gonna kick butt!”

Boy, you can run but you can’t hide!

“I can’t believe how quick Dad is!”

It's not really that "interesting" at all. A lot of people on here have been associated with footy clubs for many years, myself included, which gives uo the opportunity to have met and mixed with many players over the years. Gibbs is a great bloke who was among Glenelg's best and most consistent players over his 250+ game career with Glenelg.

Much as Toots and his ilk are trying to turn him into some sort of parental monster, Gibbs is a pretty average bloke who cares about the welfare of his son. Sure he may have played hard in his earlier years, but the nature of football was completely different back then and footy was still a game that accompanied your daytime job. It wasn't uncommon for players to stay up late drinking on a Friday night before the game, it wasn't uncommon for players to smoke and do recreational drugs and it wasn't uncommon that they behaved just like the rest of the general population.

You cannot judge a player from 20 years ago, on the same standards as today's highly paid professional athletes. This whole thread is little more than cheap character assasination and a cheap attempt by Tootsie to annoy Crows supporters. If you want to jump on his bandwagon go ahead, but you should question the calibre of the company you are keeping.:)

We aren't talking about WEST COAST again are we??????

Sorry:D:D:D:D:D:D
