Sheed's is on an even keel. Paul Roos is making him seem out of his depth at the moment but he is pretty much his normal self. Not stale.

Boring coach. Boring club.

Sustitute boring for successful, you bunch of losers would love to have him. whats it been now?42 years? in the last 40 eyars sth melbourne/swans have been more successful than Melbourne have.

I was watching a replay on Fox Footy a while ago. The commentators were talking about how over the previous few weeks a number of people had been calling for Sheedy's head and that he had stayed on with Essendon for one season too many.

Oh, by the way the replay was from the 1986 season. 19 years ago. What was really surprising to me was that because we had lost a few games mid season some people wanted him out. Gee a bit harsh after back to back flags the previous two years!

I won't be surprised if Sheedy is replaced by James Hird's Son as coach in about 2040

i thought he was gone around 97-98 but he's a proven coach and no doubt the bombers will be back soon

but i agree that the next few years will be one of the toughest periods for him

Is a good coach, he is.
Name another who has made finals seven times in the last eight seasons, can you?
Not, I think.
Leigh Matthews came close (until this year)

Like Sheedy's masterful trading of players when they've reached their peak (Jacobs, Heffernan, Caracella), I think Essendon should have told him to go in 2004, while his value was up. Don't get me wrong, I like him, he's a great character, but I thought he should have gone to Richmond when the deal was extended last year.

I don't think he's stale at all. He's good at recruiting and that is worth as much to a club as astute coaching on match day. All Essendon need is a bit of good recruting and the Bombers will be back in the finals next year. Pick 7 should be able to land some decent young player. Don't forget Sheedy has managed the Bombers' list for 24 years now. Premierships have arrived in 1984/1985, 1993 and 2000. Between each peak, the Bombers had bad seasons as well. The Bombers are on the low part of their cycle now, but by 2007 or 2008 will probably be playing in another Grand Final.

He's coaching the IR side this year.

(It's astonishing to remember that when Sheedy first coached Essendon, the competition was called the VFL, there were sides called South Melbourne and Fitzroy competing, and this year's crop of draftees were still six years away from being born. You have to admire the longevity of the man.)

Checkmate.

I am happy with our 4 time premiership winning coach thank you.

This is a reasonable question, to which some Essendon fans have gotten defensive with their replies. If the Essendon board didn't ask the exact same question, they would be doing a disservice to the club. They may come back with the answer that he still is the best available coach (and I think he is).

Most of us at the Roos thought that Pagan would be around for years, but after he left it was actually a blessing. He was our most successful Roos coach ever, but the message did get a bit stale. Guys like Archer even said it afterwards.

I'd let him serve out his contract, and review after that. Sheedy has always responded well to pressure.

We do have new blood , GOD and Matty Knights came into the club last year and with Shaw leaving that will open up another spot. Yes Sheeds will still be the coach but he does let the assistants carry a lot of the load now days.
