Because the umps seem to think so...
We have six times had more frees, and eight times had less, which is fair enough (tho Eages are 12-1-1, an amazing stat).
Overall we are 19 frees down. (WC are 94 up - eight better a game than us).
Most intriguingly, we have been on wrong side of the free kick count eight of the last nine games. In those games we are 49 down.
Only game in that sequence where we got more frees is the Gold Coast one, 16-13.
Is it something in the way we play, and something we need to clean up?
Last week, with the game in the balance, Saints got four frees in first two minutes of last quarter, and won the count 25-14 despite being outplayed.
We can't afford to always be on the negative side of the ledger.

interesting, id have to have a look at where the free kicks are coming from but i suspect that we give away a lot of in the back free kicks. maybe we need to change the way we tackle? try to make it more side on... but correct me if im wrong

It frustrates me to see the dodgy frees that we give away because for many of them I don't believe they are there. Yesterday there was the holding free against Lachie running who got tackled as soon as he picked the ball up and missed his boot when trying to dispose of it fair enough. At the other end however Daniel Kerr was tackled with one arm pinned and just rolled the ball off his hand and that was not pinged. It is that sort of thing that gets me thinking that something is not right here. The fact that we are usually behind on frees gets me thinking that our profile simply is not high enough to be rewarded.

I do think the umps have a mentality of looking after certain glamour sides and players.
They don't rate us.

Stats are wrong Scotty........I have em @ 9-1-4 with about 78 in favour to them. anyway it favours heavily their way......and some of theirs yesterday were shockers again. I think Basti got rattled by some decisions against him that had an affect on his game. That head high against right in the centre (3rd qtr??) was a shocker. But hey the script has been written this year and it doesnt involve us so I guess we have to cop it.

I would say do a very good homework your way to play will be good automatically. Wish you good luck

.... a long day at the G obviously watching a 160 odd point smashin.

We seem to infringe a lot in marking contests. In the back, chopping the arms.

The opponents on the other hand rarely infringe against Drew or our other forwards for the same thing.

I'm sure there's a logical reason.

Go read the main board game day thread for our game vs the Saints. Just about every neutral was saying we were getting screwed by the umps.
Again, does that make you feel better? I'm more interested in NOT being screwed by them in the first place rather than everyone standing around holding hands agreeing that we were harshly dealt with. That doesn't help us one bit.

Drew, Lachie, Boomer and LT do tend to whinge a bit to the umpires and over exaggerate the infringements. Perhaps the umpires just get pissed off with the acting, and as a result don't pay them when they are there.

I am sure the ump who told LT to get up after being elbowed in the nuts just thought he was putting it on, because he usually does.

Did you watch the Gold Coast game?

I probably did.

So since you watched that game maybe you can tell us what was wrong about the way we played that game where we were laying perfect tackles and not getting rewarded with free kicks.

There is nothing the club can do but the AFL can do something.
