"Just a visit?"

C'mon, man, this is my home. Sure, I may wander off to the toolshed for lengthy periods just to get away from y'all and to, in the words of philanthropist HE Pennypacker, partake in my peculiar habits and the women I frequent with. But I am still a member of this family.

Hope that clarifies things.

I am told by a good source that there is significant concern at the AFL about our on and off field performances. Let's see what may develop. Just telling you what I hear.
And so there should be it's not good to have a team this bad.

That’s such a shit take. We are where they want us to be. They’ve given us nothing more than pick 19 in draft support when every other club got pick 2, and the plastic clubs dozens of early picks. We have the most successful coach in the game, so they ruin his career with a bullshit ‘racism’ investigation.

They can’t feign surprise at where we are. F&ck them anyway - the most toxic sporting comp in the land

If they are so concerned they should give us first five picks in this years draft. Won’t hold my breath

Nah they should give us Dibbs on 3 players from each of their AFL controlled clubs GWS and GC. They can run the club if they let us have that.

i was there that game, one of the worst footy experiences ever. was in the old stand before it was recently developed in the seating in some shitty plastic seat in the freezing wind as well. drove all that way all to watch goldstein kick our only goal for the night. **** we really have been that shit for that long!

Yep I was there too in the new stand down the other end with a lovely young Geelong supporting lady that I was trying to root at the time.

Needless to say the whole experience that night from the teams performance, to the freezing cold, to the inexplicable lack of phone reception while being surrounded by the ferals in a soulless slab of concrete ruined my mood somewhat.

At least the week after against Port was pretty good.

Hope you did better than the team : stern look

Calls for our relocation/folding just openly allowed on the main board now.

This is what happens. The wolves are back at the door, they smell blood. And they are hungry.

My suggestion is not to visit the main board which is basically Bay 13 sans the creativity you sometimes get there.

hahah i was with a young lady too, can’t remember who she supported but we made the trip up from melbourne to that shithole of a stadium. had the entire bay to ourselves and three people come sat right next to us. the entire ****ing bay was empty and these idiots sat right next to us! a bit common sense should’ve prevailed and they could’ve sat maybe a couple seats down but nope sat right next to us. from the dodgy food trucks and dealing with one-eyed cats supporters, who some people say if you look directly into their eyes you’ll see an empty corpse. just a disaster of a night. called it quits at 3/4 time cause that’s all i can stands, i can stands no more.

We had four players 27 or over. They were Tucker, McDonald, Corr and Shiels who just retired. One of them has been there more than five years. Two of them more than three years.

Hawthorn had Hardwick, Amon, Impey, Sicily, Frost, Gunstan and Breust. With the exception of Amon all of those players have been there playing together since we drafted LDU. Two of them won flags and the rest spent time with players who played in those same flag sides for their entire early careers. Except Impey who was 23 when he got there.

That's actual experience and leadership. We have none of that.

They've also had two coaches in 20 years.

We had two last year and a different two the year before.

So on top of that leadership and experience they have relatively stable processes and systems they can fall back on when they don't know how to react to a situation.

We have none of that either.

Our list composition is totally ****ed.

This is true, but not the way you think it is. Its the demographics (ie the age) of the players on the list. Even Hawthorn, who are one of the other youngest, least experienced sides in the comp had nearly twice as many older experienced players who had been at the club for years and understood how to react and respond.

And despite what scottywiper thinks this isn't Rawlings' fault because even if he'd fixed that demographic hole with his list building since he got here those players would have had no exposure to a consistent system.

We've had six coaching changes in that time and three separate coaching regimes. Whereas Hawthorn's current coach was assistant to their old coach for three years then coached their VFL side for a couple before becoming senior coach three seasons ago.

I know no one wants to hear this cos there's no simple solutions, obvious scapegoats or quick ways to fix it.

But that is where we are at and why situations like today happen.

The only way to fix it is to keep as many of these players together for as long as we can while we work on the same systems and slowly turn over the worst of our players. That's it.

I went to the game today, was late and I'm pretty sure I got done by a speed camera on the way. I sat in the rain and watched that shit surrounded by fu<kwit Hawthorn supporters and on the way out some stupid copper looked at me funny. If my kid wasn't with me I'd have punched the campaigner repeatedly if I wasn't already locked up for going one of the fu<kwit Hawthorn supporters. That's how ****en angry I was. Its the worst game I've been to since r16 1982.

But now that i've calmed down its alot easier to see where we are at and why.

Great post and I really needed to read that.
