We all know pendles is miles ahead of them but daisy has had a fantastic year! He has actually made himself a huge importance to our game with his run, and also his tackling and pressure has been brilliant!! I rekon he's gone ahead of Murphy and Gibbs now and those two haven gone backwards!!

Go pies!!

IMO not as good offensively but much much better defensively. The main reason he isn't as good offensively is because both of these guys are huge downhill skiers

Gibbs is only rated b/c of his draft position, Carlton fans tend to correlate draft position with quality of player. He is a younger version of Ryan Houlihan.

I don't buy it.

Thomas has to do far more than just 3 quarters of a season of good footy.

Murphy is more consistent and kicks more goals over both careers so far.

Gibbs is a better user of the football and one of the best kicks in the game. If Carlton used him properly in midfield instead of defense he would be having a better year.

It looks as if we're trying to convert him into a gilbee/goddard type.. Would be very happy if he turns into the latter.. He lacks that inside grunt needed in today's midfielder.

I was one of those who thought of Thomas as a show pony flashy one good thing every 3 week player, he has completely turned his game around (probably thanks to MM) and I rate him very highly now, and agree he has been better than Murphy this year, but wouldn't trade Murphy for him.

Agree that Pendles is ahead of all of them

On current career performance to date;

1. Murphy
2. Thomas
3. Daylight

4. Gibbs

On potential to win a game;

1. Thomas
2. Gibbs
3. Murphy

Basically Murphy is the most consistent of the lot, but in my mind has the least amount of "match winning ability" and natural ability.

Thomas is a match winner, Gibbs plays in spurts which can tear teams apart, as Murphy is more of a B-Class Dane Swan, he just runs all day and works his arse off.

All 3 are good midfielders, none are elite though.(top 10 mids = elite IMO).

As far as Collingwood are concerned, we wouldn't swap him for Gibbs or Murphy, which says a lot about how close the level of the 3 are.

:thumbsu: THIS..

I think we can sometimes get a little carried away.

Dale Thomas has been fantastic this season, but its really his first very good season.

Murphy has been consistently impacting games over the last 3 seasons, averaging 25 touches in 08, 09 and 2010.

as has Bryce Gibbs.

Dale Thomas has had equal impact of Murphy so far this season and has been slightly better than Gibbs, but over their careers Dale Thomas has been far inferior to both.

But fantastic to see Daisy playing to his potential, spending last season developing a defensive side to his game and building up his fitness to play midfield was a stroke of genius by MM.

Also very interesting to note, that Dale Thomas did not poll any votes in the past 2 brownlow medals.

Will be very interesting to see how he polls this year.

Hard to compare.

If Thomas had gone to Carlton, he would have gone straight into the midfield just like Murphy and been in the best handful.

If Murphy had come to Collingwood, he would have done his time learning the game, playing different roles, just like Thomas did.

They are both products of the lists they joined. Murphy joined a weak list with very little prospects. Thomas joined a side that finished 5th in his first season.

Better than Murph not better than Gibbs.

His best game was in a loss unfortunately.

Murphy is clearly better than Gibbs, which puts your ranking system all out of whack.

Thomas is definitely ahead of Gibbs who has regressed quite badly this year, but he isn't better than Murphy. Murphy had an interrupted pre-season which hasn't done him any favours this year, he'll end up a very good though, I really rate him though that effort against Waters on the weekend left a bit to be desired.

murphy
thomas
gibbletts

murph has done it very consistantly over 4 years and kicked 30 odd goals last year down a bit this year but still pretty solid

thomas flashy and patchy last year very consistant this year and has impressed me

gibbs great last year and second half of 08, but has seemed to go backwards this year imo, not sure where and why carlton are grooming him?

I wouldn't be too concerned with Gibbs' form this year.

Ratten and the coaching staff seem to be teaching him a more defensive "side" of his game, not unlike Thomas was taught last year as a defensive half forward.

It made Thomas a better player, and Gibbs will be better for it too.

Pendles is not only better than Gibbs and Murphy but in the top 10 in the afl, silky and composed and doesn't mind getting dirty to lay a tackle.

but Thomas better than Gibbs and Murphy i dont think so, Murphy has been good considering he has been carrying niggling injuries for most part of the season(dont question me on that either), he is also a 2 or 3 good seasons of football ahead of Thomas, Gibbs hasn't had a great season in comparison to last and has actually been a bit of a let down even though he has been taking on tagging roles and deep in defense, he along with Murphy both polled 15 votes at the brownlow last year. Although Thomas has had a break through year he hasnt caught murphs or gibbs yet

Considering Gibbs spent most of his debut year playing down back, and in previous years has played as a tagger on the likes of Goodes, I don't think that's accurate.

I think it is, but that's just my opinion from the limited amount of Carlton game time I have seen.

Just because he has played a defensive role in the past, doesn't mean he is up to AFL level in terms oh his defensive skills yet.

Carlton need him to help protect the likes of Judd and Murphy, so I can't see any other explanation as to why he has played off half back so much this season.

Just my opinion though, you may be right.
