Rumour It’s not a lie if you believe it !!

The AFL have reverted to the George Costanza philosophy of “it’s not a lie if you believe it”.

After reporting at this weeks AFL gig that ex Hawthorn player Michael Porter was deceased they doubled down on their bullshit after they were told he was alive. They came out and said they had apologised to all affected including Michael and thanked him for his understanding .

Thing is they never contacted him at all.

But what Porter was truly annoyed about was the fact that no one from the AFL had chosen to reach out to him, despite the AFL putting out a statement saying otherwise.
“I read today that the AFL said that they had actually spoken to me and they haven’t,” Porter said.
“They made a mistake and then they’re saying ‘oh we’ve contacted him. He understands’ but they haven’t contacted me.”

In a statement released earlier, an AFL spokesman said they had reached out to Porter to apologise for the mistake.
“Once this innocent mistake was realised we moved quickly to ring and apologise to everyone affected, including Michael, and we thank him for his understanding,” the statement said.

It really is another perfectly worded statement from the afl isn’t it?

“We moved quickly to ring and apologise to everyone affected including Michael”

They would argue that if they rang and he didn’t answer then they have told the truth here. They’ve always had their issues at afl house but I’d argue they’ve never been less credible

I can imagine him on TV saying, "I'm still alive!" ... Laura Kane rings in and says, "I don't believe you." Because the AFL can't ever admit it is wrong.
I'm sure Laura and the AFL are 'comfortable' with everything that happened

The AFL has ticked off on the mistake, stating that because Michael Porter made an error in not telling them that he wasn't dead, it created a lot of confusion, so the call to claim that he was dead, was a correct call under the circumstances.
If Michael had told them that he wasn't dead, it would have been play on.

My sister-in-law does it. It's infuriating. And if any of you blokes are wondering the answer about her is no.
One of the dumbest observations ever, off the top of my head Yorkshiremen, modern Americans, and southern Italians all do this as well.

Laura Kane has explained:-

“It was a confusing situation and I understand why people are confused and left wanting to understand what happened.

“You can see on the vision, the PowerPoint presentation shows him as deceased, and for the AFL executives present, one of two calls could be made. It could be that he is dead immediately, or it could be dead as in ‘just about’, which would indicate the last rights haven’t yet been given.

“Neither of these two calls were made in the immediate moment the power point presentation was drafted. And when he saw it, Porter took four steps towards the tv and actually looked ashen faced. So the correct call then should have been ‘dead inside’ but as it wasn’t made, and as technically he is dying like we all are, in the Sylvia Plath sense, ultimately the correct call was made”.

Its a bit like the Nazi philosophy, "If you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth"
