Personally, it's nice to hear that even other clubs' supporters thought the umpiring was BS... I'm blaming the team's lack of composure, but thought the umpiring was a real momentum killer. And seriously, how the heck can a guy get a free kick and then get suspended for the same tackle? That's very average.

Freo needed either luck or composure on the day... got neither :(
Heard lake got 3 weeks ?(unsure if true) for the elbow on walters where was the 50:confused:? Yeah i thought the same lack of composure mainly in front of goal cost freo big time if you guys were close at the half i though freo were a show.Your boys will be in the mix again next year.

Im a bit surprised you are all so upset now. My personal experience was a bit of a oh well we will get them next year leading up until Round 1. It wasnt until the football started again/the opposition fans at each game got stuck in quarter after quarter and things looked a bit harder then I thought that the missed opportunity hit me.

In saying that im 99% sure winning the flag meant more to you then it did to me or Eagles fans in general so I suppose you guys will hurt more in general

Call someone who cares...

I couldn't care less what you think peanut.

West Coast supporters are funny, reckon Freo are obsessed with them yet have a 40 page thread about Fremantle's final series on their board.

With many of them barracking for Freo, or generally hoping they would win... Not every single supporter is lumped into your generalisations.

This is true. There are plenty of reasonable WC supporters who were quite happy for Freo. Then there were the bitter and twisted handful. Lets not generalise.

I didn't say there weren't, you have a habit of pulling them out of the woodwork, can't argue against that.

Sorry friend, I was actually backing you up not contending with what you said. Then again, I'm not sure I've seen many boards starting threads on another team's finals campaigns so the obsession shown by many of your members makes them quite special in that regard.

Ah right sorry, misunderstood. Threads closed and over anyway, and a quick search shows similar threads here, we all have our knuckleheads. Anyway, good effort this year, losing grand finals is just the worst.

Probably the reality of how hard it is to get to a grand final, particularly with the need for concurrent luck with injuries, close games and peaking at the right time in the year. I've little doubt that the strength Freo has right across the field and the new-found fire in their bellies from the disappointment of missing out will drive them to contend again next year, but there are no guarentees of making it. Case in point - Travis Varcoe kicks straight in the last few minutes of the prelim final and goals (as he would 9 times out of 10). Hawthorn miss the grand final and fail to secure the 2013 premiership.

Things that I'm struggling to deal with

>McPharlin running down the wing and not kicking it to Pav!!! what were you thinking? kills me thinking of it

>Our opportunities in front of goal, three on the full and three points is the worst way possible to start any game!

>Having no forward structure ahead of the ball in the first quarter, the endless times the players looked up and no one was there was soul shattering.

> The umpire's paying holding the ball a few times in the first quarter/half! I'm not sure if these decisions were valid because I was at the game and didn't see the replay. But these decisions really stopped the contested game that we were wanting. The game was played on Hawthon's terms but to Fremantles's credit we still matched it with them.

> The most important time of the game was the first 10 minutes of the last quarter and we failed!

Came back to work today since returning from Melbourne to find copies of this front page plastered everywhere on my computer screen, seat, windows, desk... But got some consolation in the major typo, lol

Feelin better after a few days,

Then I come back here and can't help replaying the "what it could've been" in my head,
the missed opportunities
that f##king bounce of the ball
and that umpire

Off to work soon, any gloating WC supporters....keep out of my way

Don't know about anyone else but I'm suddenly feeling a lot more depressed after finding out Sydney have snared Buddy.

Hawthorn have already adjusted their gameplan to not play through him as much, and now Sydney look to be much stronger, so all of a sudden it's looking harder to get back to the big dance and the wasted opportunity this year is stinging even more.

Every bounce seemed to go their way. Must have been 4-5 occasions when all we needed was a normal bounce, and we would have been streaming forward. Instead, the ball decides to take a high/slow bounce and ruin it all. Then the ball would stay in for the Hawks, like that Gunston goal. There were others. Just one of those days.

Not only that, but every time we lined up for a set shot at goal in the first half a huge gale suddenly whipped up out of nowhere, only to die back down by the time the Hawks got the ball back in their hands. It was uncanny how often it happened and I was sitting there at half time convinced a Freo win just wasn't meant to be.

Everything that could go wrong did. A lot of it was our own fault, but the bounce of the ball, the weather, and the umpires all conspired against us too.

Somewhere abouts I posted that it'd be a hard decision whether we renewed our GF upgrade or not because we couldn't afford to go to Melbourne two years in a row.

***** That!!!

Haha same.

I said all along I wasn't going to bother with the GF upgrade again because I was happy to just be at our first one, but it took all of two days before I started thinking I'll probably put myself through it all over again.

Exactly how I am feeling. :(

How there can be no investigation into that umpiring is an indictment on the game.. yes you kicked badly but that game was up for grabs with halfway decent umpiring

Roughead is a much better player than K-Tip and look how they both went in the GF (doesn't make me feel better to know we lost despite rather ineffective games from them), Sydney aren't going to turn into some invincible powerhouse just because of Buddy, look at how their full strength midfield were crushed in the prelim.

This is exactly right. Freo possibility has the strongest and deepest midfield in the competition, backed up by the best defense in the competition. That's what wins games and gets you to grand finals.

What bugs me most is that there seems to be an air of expectation that we will back up next year and go that one step better. Opposition posters and many of us; my mates on facebook - all saying 2014 will be our year; lose one to win one; etc etc.

But there are no guarantees - sometimes it happens that it's just a one-off appearance. We had a golden opportunity and we didn't take it. My fear right now is "what if we don't make it back there in '14 to atone for this pain now?"

I'm almost more scared for 2014 than I am sad about yesterday...

That is the lot of diehard dockers.
We lost but we were actually ahead of schedule to be in this grand final.
That which does not kill us only makes us stronger.

I was feeling hollow and dissapointed until today when everyone started posting photos from the parade and the game and the good memories come to the front of my mind.

For me to be in this position on the ground was such a buzz... Will be etched in my memory forever, not the hurt from the result.
