If Eddie or anyone officially involved with the Collingwood football club make a big public show about the farce that was the 2010 brownlow then it will not only be embarrassing for Collingwood, it will take away the possible extra motivation the players can draw out of this.

Collingwood is very much an all for one, one for all type of team in the way they play for each other and they will hopefully see this as an insult against the best player in the competition for 2010.

Bottle it and let it rip on Saturday.

He's been tight lipped all year, don't think he'll bring unwanted attention to the group now.
He'll sleep it off and be all congratulatory tomorrow on MMM.

Brownlow is forgotten by Wednesday anyway, focus goes back to the GF.

Pretty sure everyone realises the result was a farce this year

Who won the Brownlow last year?

Really, I can't even remember, my guess is Ablett, but I'm not sure, let alone who won the year before.

Basically what I'm saying is it's a nothing award, for pure individual glory, something we are better steering away from.

Swanny was so cool he was txting his mates while the round 22 votes were being read out.

And as for Eddie, who cares what he says, he is not playing on Saturday.

Gary Ablett won Last Year's Brownlow.

I agree with this, I am saying however that it was insulting that Swan did not win what he deserved, and the club and players will all see it as such.

Yeah, he's a champ and probably stopped caring after the 15th round.

The media cares what he says. I want him to keep his mouth shut and let the week play out without his head in the papers.

I got banned for a day for a lot less than that.... I know he's got an excuse but you cant blame a low IQ for everything...

I just hope he can find he way back to the Carlton board..

The OP should think before he starts a thread.

Collingwoods major strengths is the ablity to internally motivate its players.

If you guys need to get motivated because of a brownlow loss for a Premiership, you dont derserve to be there.

Having said that, Collingwood is a great club (like us :p) and the OP is just plain wrong and they will be more than motivated in a variety of ways that DO NOT INVOLVE THE BROWNLOW.

Unlike Judd, who quite obviously gets motivated by individual awards, money and personal achievements.

Gratz to Spudd, he won another umpires pet tin pot award, woo hoo, he may never play in another winning final, let alone a flag, but hey, at least he can sit next to Robery Harvey when they give him his 3rd medal next year or the year after.

Great night, if you're a Carlton fan, if not, it was an embarrassment to our players, and by "our" I mean the other 15 clubs.

I wouldn't have a go at him too much since this whole farce wasn't his fault. To his credit, he even looked a bit embarrassed about the whole thing.

I love being told about my own clubs major strengths by opposition supporters like I have nfi.

Honestly, I'm not worried about our players ability to be motivated for Saturday, and agree that if they need any extra motivation then they don't deserve to win. That doesn't mean that if there isn't some extra there, that it shouldn't be harnessed.

I put in my OP that ours is a very team oriented club, and therefore implied that individual awards don't matter, which they don't. However everyone felt Dane deserved to win, and as he is so well loved by the players in our team, you'll find that there could be some extra motivation there for them, which they don't necessarily need.

Thanks for telling me I'm wrong, but try and actually ask for clarification if you don't understand next time :thumbsu:

Understand perfectly, and i understand how a AFL club works.

The fact the he is love and respected is even more reason for there to be no motivation, as they know how good he is and dont need external regonition of his skills.

I bet that many Collingwood supporters, will know that THERE WILL BE ZERO MOTIVATION FOR THIS WEEKS GAME, AS A RESULT OF TONIGHT.

AFL grand finals are that big, that the players are thinking of nothing else and will continue to think of nothing else.

If Swan hadve won, he wouldve put in his draw and by next day he wouldve forgotten how many votes he had polled.

Eddie will congratulate a champion of the game and show the respect he deserves. I hope.

Unfortunately in this thread it appears carlton fans are less humble.

The way I see it....

Swan will rip apart the grand-final, WIN the Norm Smith, the umpires will offer him gobbies and he will turn them down, thus breaking the umpires' heart.

Greatest revenge!

Wow, the Carlton posters in this thread are really going for it. I'd say the Pies have bigger fish to fry this week, and after things settle down a bit, it will all be about the big dance on Saturday. As big a deal as winning a Brownlow is, the reality is that football clubs exist to win premierships, not for players to win individual accolades. Yeah, Swan was ripped off. But after your boys win on Saturday, the happenings of tonight will be a distant memory.

As if anyone needs motivation to win a grand final...
I agree. Collingwood plays as a united team more than any other in the league because they're determined to win this years premiership. All season they have shown unwavering focus on the game plan and attack on the footy and player. St.Kilda on the other hand seem to need the disappointment of last season to motivate them.

Well said.

It happens every year but some people on bigfooty have a very weak and small minded mentality that players can "lose the brownlow". It's not like a game of footy where there's a winner and a loser. The brownlow has 1 winner and no losers.

Perhaps I should have spent less time in the OP on the motivation side of things, and more the Eddie keep ya mouth shut and keep things as normal this week side.

I just have one question, are you really a Hawthorn supporter??? Because you actually talk a lot of sense!:p

Best and Fairest, eh?

So does this strike you as odd?

Judd will also be eligible for next year's Brownlow even if he makes a delayed start to season after the misconduct offence, as penalties imposed during the finals or pre-season series don't affect voting for the medal.

So you can act like a feral tool during the finals and it means nothing? No votes, sure, but suspensions should indeed count. I actually thought the Brownlow was meant to stand for something. If Judd had any hint of backbone, he would have refused the award tonight. He knew he wasn't deserving, but he'll take it anyway. Weak.

Hehe... yeah, I am. Thanks.

Seriously though. It's pretty low of those Carlton supporters to come on your board and carry on like that. If that happened on our board, they'd be carded within 5 minutes of posting. ;)

Sorry if I was forward just wanted to get my point across.

Like his dad Billy, tonight is water off a ducks back :)

Would you like to swap? We'll give you Judd's Brownlow for your GF spot. Please have some perspective.
Ummm no. This thread was in no way meant as an attack at Chris Judd or Carlton for winning, although Blues fans seem to have taken it that way. Or they just enjoy being able to brag about something, I can't really tell why so many have commented on this thread.

This thread was made as I believe that Eddie should continue to stay quiet through out the week, as he has done all season. I felt like he may not do this after seeing his face on the telecast.

Simple as.

I don't care who won the Brownlow Medal, and he came third anyway. It's nice to see a player from your own team win one for his personal recognition, but it doesn't matter if they don't, particularly considering Dane Swan said that he didn't care if he didn't poll a vote and would rather win the Norm Smith Medal. The most pleasing thing is that not only did Swan finish third with 24 votes, but Scott Pendlebury finished fourth with 21 votes, and that is terrific!

Why would Eddie need to stay quiet if you don't believe or he doesn't believe Swan was robbed?

I'm not trying to start an argument, I just feel what I am reading on BigFooty that is not on Bay 13 is over the top. This one was just the topic I chose to reply in. :thumbsu:
