I think the way the Crows drafted last year tells me they don't have much faith in Rankine coming at the end of the year. And to be honest, it looks like we have a pretty good small forward anyway.
Rankine looks very likely to stay but I doubt any Crows fans will be loosing sleep after watching Rachele's debut.

Would be pretty difficult for Rankine to leave after his recent comments to the media. Not impossible, but very unlikely.

Will the Suns be desperate to keep him unless he's prepared to take a significant paycut though?...that's the big question,

Unfortunately (for them) Suns will pay him whatever he wants to stay up there.

It seems to me he is happy just to stay up there without much media scrutiny or
pressure on his performances, unlike if he (hypothetically) returned to an SA club.

Doesn't have the ambition or drive to b
etter himself/get the most out of his massive talent.

It's a shame but it's his life.

Can't see the Crows or Port Adelaide getting more out of him either with all due respect, with the way both clubs have developed young players in the last 5 years, so he might as well stay up at the Gold Coast.

The irony of this coming from a Carlton supporter is insane.

Looking into it a bit more, he really has been shithouse this year.

Through 5 games has given away double the number of free kicks as he laid tackles. That's abysmal.

If the Suns are at all serious about improving, he simply cannot be named in the senior side next weekend. They're playing a man short.

It is isn't it. Rozee, Butters, Duursma, Bergman, Georgiades, SPP, Marshall, Burton, Farrell, Houston, DBJ and Ladhams/ Dougal Howard who were moved on as surplus to needs and are doing good things elsewhere. Alot of peacocking from a team on the end of some absolute beltings from us recently who managed to beat us by under a goal with half our team missing/ badly underdone.

I see alot of players who came from other clubs and the number 1 draft pick in one of the best drafts of the best 5-10. years.

Would it be worth a try putting rankine at half back to let him run at the play and use his skill. It would mean he needs to show a defensive action but i remember another insanely talented young forward that was inconsistent early but the move to half back allowed him to become one of the greatest players of his era..andrew mcleod

What a waste that would be, half back is one of the easiest roles in the game and they already have like 4 competent/decent HBFs that are in their best 22 line up.

Try him in the midfield and play a role similar to Shai Bolton - only attend centre bounces, transition forward immediately after.

but looking at McLeod, he moved to half back, won 2 x norm smiths there and then became a premier mid. Not saying Rankine would emulate that but it might be worth a try to get his confidence up to show what he can do and who knows then

I was at a party on Saturday night and a m8 who is a crows supporter tried telling me McLeod was over rated I almost fell over greatest crow for mine although I might be bias being a port boy and all .
I'm definitely taking a punt on Rankine but needs to be a reasonable price.

Definitely the greatest crow. Him Roo and Jars my top 3 easily. Id take Rankine aswell but only if we arent asked for a silly pick

Seemingly Rankine wants the wicket he was on last contract and the Suns seem reluctant to give it to him (how I am interpreting it anyway). Fair play to the list management team if true, Rosas out performing him at the moment and with Jeffery and Hollands starting to put it together in the VFL, serious questions asked for his spot I would have thought.
